Does anyone know if the HP MSS use a lot of power? Im using a EX470 with all Eco friendly drives. Reason I am asking is the past 2 months my PG&E bill has increased a lot and the only things I have added to my house is a HP MSS and a Popcorn Hour A-110.

I should put my Kill-A-Watt on mine (while I still have it) for you Chris, but I've never noticed my bill being particularly high...until lately. And I've had the MSS for a while now.

I don't know if PG&E is just raising prices like crazy or what. from december to the February bill there has been a $50 increase.

That would be great CD!

Compare the 470 to the homebuilt!

The MediaSmart servers are decent at being relatively low power:

It looks like the 48x line is better than the 47x line - especially with more disks - and presumably the 49x line is better yet.

One thing you can do to save more power is use the Sleep function - make sure your server is going to sleep for a certain period every day. For me, it's 3am to 6am.

I didn't know there was a sleep function.. How does it work exactly? You can set a time period and it automatically goes to sleep?

If the server is sleeping and one day I randomly decide to watch a movie at the time the server is sleeping will the server automatically wake up?

1. In the WHS Console, go to Settings and then select HP MediaSMart Server. On the Power Management tab you can set the daily sleep time.

2. No, you will need to wake it first manually or by using some Add-in like AutoExit which lets you wake the server from a PC.

Can't be done with 470 or 475. No power management.
