I'm running an HP Z560 Digital Media Center. The unit is completely stock, although I did upgrade to Vista Home Premium last November just after I purchased it. It's been a great unit so far.

Now I would like to upgrade to a QAM capable tuner card, as our Comcast providor offers dozens of unscrambled channels.

I know many of the parts in these units are custom, and the rear plate looks like it's unique. What, if any, problems can I expect during an upgrade? And does a card exist at all?

Thank you in advance.

@ mcmlxv,

Welcome!

The cards inside are standard PCI cards, and there are several PCI-bus QAM-capable tuner cards available. Finding one to fit the rear panel will be a good trick, though, without performing surgery or leaving the rear panel off.

Might I suggest the HDHomeRun? It'll give you what you're looking for without having to mod your box. A Google search will give you all you need to know about it. In short, it's a network box that connects to your cable connection and transmits the programs to your machine via your network, so no internal modding required.

Glad to see another "Z-Machine" owner here! Have you modded yours for BluRay yet?

Last night I ordered one of these HD HOMERUN dual tuners. Evidently Media Center will recognize that on the computer network and use it as additional tuners for Media Center's DVR features. Many people are recommending these. I see you've been recommending this since 2008, although I "never made the connection" till now.
I'll let ya know how it works when it arrives.
