I had heard of the HS10 having issues with the hot air venting out the front actually impacting the image. I hadn't given it much thought until last night when I noticed my image having trouble staying in focus. After refocusing the pj twice I wound up refocusing a third time standing 1' from the screen and using the screendoor to focus. At that point I noticed the screendoor was going in and out of focus on it's own. After a brief moment of panic thinking I had a bad PJ I remebered the exhaust issue and placed a CD jewel case at a 45 deg angle to deflect the air and thankfully the image stabalized.

I'm curious if anyone has come up with an attractive DIY deflector to address this issue.

Is your HS-10 ceiling mounted or table mounted?

Reason I ask is because mine is ceiling mounted and I have no exhaust fan shimmering or focus issues. That may not be so with a table mount since the hotter air would be rising through the image.

I have my HS10 table mounted and I don't have a problem.

Currently it is table mounted. I am in the process of building a ceiling mount so it is possible this issue will go away when I move it to the ceiling.

It was definately not a very noticable effect. Something just didn't look right about the picture and at first I just thought my eyes were having trouble staying focused on the screen. It wasn't something out could sit back at 1x screen size and clearly see happen. It wasn't until I I was right up by the picture that I was able to actually see it go in and out of focus.

Eric, I've noticed the same thing. I don't consider it an issue, though, because you have to practically have your nose pressed against the screen to see it.

Bill:

I actually picked up the parts for that last night, thanks Money_Man! Though the only 1/4'' plexiglass HD had was in huge sheets, so I am planning on going with 1/2" plywood instead. Painted white it should match my ceiling pretty well and it seems sturdy enough. I'll most likely be mounting the PJ tonight. I'm also considering going with M5 bolts with no ends, or sawing the ends off of the bolts I already have, so that by only removing 3 wing nuts I could bring down the PJ for a lamp/filter change, without taking the bolts and spring assemblies off of the PJ.

I'm thinking for the fan there has to be a 45 or 90 degree vent cover out there for computers. Assuming it doesn't have a negative impact on the airflow, it may help the shimmering screen and cut down on fan noise.
