Hello everyone,

I have a HS2000 Panasonic unit which I did not use for about 1.5 years (I could not get it to work correctly with my previous cable system).

I have moved and subscribed to Satellite (DirectTV) and wanted to use my unit, but when the Panasonic tech reset my unit (243-replayzone) she said that I need to send my unit to a service center for an software update, since my unit has not connected for such a long time.

Is the software update available on the net? I have seen instructions on how to install a single and/or 2nd hard drive (using RTVPatch) but the steps specify that I use my original drive which has the old software therefore it would be not good since it will copy the "old" software to the new drive.

Also is the RTVPatch the software upgrade I need?

Does anyone have any suggestions? TIA.

;)

This information is easily found by searching this forum. You download the image from Mikeyboy put it in the C:\\ directory remove the Showstoppers hard drive and plug it into your computers secondary ide master cable slot. When you download the image from mikeyboy you also get the instructions. It cost you nothing but time.

Just to add a little more info http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...58#post1339558

By the way check 411 "zones". If you have 2.0 you must reimage the drive. However you should have 3.0 build 107 as it came out 2 years ago and can connect to replay servers. Unfortunately build 107 doesn't have the modem speed panel upgrade which over came the connection speed mismatch issue.

If you can connect and download local numbers but can't connect to the local number, email me and I'll reply with a method to use which should complete the guide data and software upgrade without opening up the recorder to reimage the hard drive.

Mike & Don,

Thanks very much for the help. Mike, you were correct my HS2000 version is 3 build 107 and yes during setup I was able to contact the main server and get a list of local numbers. I was able to dial into the local servers and download the DirecTV channels but when doing the last step (I believe was downloading the channel guide it would sometimes go to 90% then disconnect me).

BTW, I just bought a 120 GIG Maxtor (7200 RPM) to put into the HS2000. I am not sure if to keep both drives in the recorder or just put the 120 Gig by itself but I know I will need to image the new drive.

Thanks again.

It will connect to the server and upgrade but it might take a few nightly updates before it works. I set my replay to only use the off air feature so it wont have very much info to upload and it worked fine.

Actually, it depends on the drive. There are some 7200rpm drives that run cooler than most 5400rpm drives. In particular, the Seagate drives are exceptionally cool and quiet...

Maybe someone can post a list of known good Seagates to use. Mikeyboy had problems with a Seagate drive due to firmware I believe. I did use a 60GB Seagate that worked using a different firmware version and I really like using that drive. Currently I've been using Samsung 120GB 5400 rpm drive but it has been hit or miss with the noise issue. The first drive was very quiet the second is not. They run about the same heat as the original drives.

Man I am about to pull my nose hairs!!! one by one!

I installed an image on a 8 gig IBM drive just to test the image then if If all goes well install the 120 Gig.

The 8 Gig was installed with Mikeboys image V3 build 220. The HS2k booted fine and I started the setup; entered my area code plus the first 3 numbers of my phone number, used the default and 33.6K modem speed, DirectV satellite, nothing tried again and again and again to get local phone numbers, notin'.

ok, tried 243 zone erased all channel guide (HS2k rebooted), tried in 243 zone Net Connect, no cigar, it said it will try later.

I have been getting Network Link Down, No answer.

I still have the original drive untouched (this drive get my local numbers and channels but it does not get the channel listings). My old drive is running version 3.0 build 107. Mikeyboy suggestion was to enter 18005904857 in the dialing prefix but the field only takes first 6 numbers (areacode+first 3 numbers of my phone number) so I could not enter the number (I looked elsewhere to enter the number but could not find any).

Thank you Mikeyboy, I appreciate your help, maybe I just a dope. You know... I am a field engineer and repair networks but this thing is kicking my butt!! Loading the image to the hard disk was cake but gettting this stuff to work is where I am hitting a wall.

Any more suggestions? Please...

Thanks all, sat down and gave it some more thought...

I listened to the modem answering but had some noise, hummm... did the telephone jack have a DSL filter? I use Verizon DSL checked, and sure enoegh it did not. I installed a filter on the wall jack and reinstall my original drive, tried again. Wahooo success!!!

Let me give myself a couple of nice hard smacks on the face... [email protected]# Man I needed that after driving myself looney and bothering you guys.

Now, that is done, I will try to install the 8 Gig IBM before committing to the 120 Gig.
