Hsu...max Extension

1213 Views 18 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  bsheldon
Hi All Newbie Here,

I Have The Ascends And The Hsu Vtf3 Mk2 On Back Order And Have Been Reading A Lot About Being Able To Get The Sub Down To 18hz In Max Extension. What Does This Mean Exactly? Do I Need To Order It A Certain Way Or Set It Differently?

Also I Was Thinking Of Going With The New Svs Pb12 Nsv/v Instead...any Opinions?

Thx, Matt

Actually it will go down to 16Hz even though the Hsu documentation states 18Hz. All you have to do is plug one of the ports with the plug Hsu provides and flip the switch on the back to the 20Hz setting.
Thanks Now Anyone With Any Opinions? Hsu Vtf3 Mk2 Or New Svs Pb12 Nsd/v??
The HSU is smaller and lighter and most people would say it is more musical. Either is a good choice. Both have variable tuning. The SVS has more tuning options, but most would say to stay away from the 12Hz tuning as it blocks too many ports which can result in port noise and it lowers the overall output too much. If you don't listen real loud, this is probably not a problem.

The jury is still out on the new NSD driver. There haven't been any comparisons to the ISD driver or pro reviews done yet. SVS claims it is an improvement and I don't think they would make that claim if it weren't true. But....

The Hsu allows you to add the turbo for ~$120 which is supposed to get much more output at the tuning frequency. I haven't seen that it adds much above the tuning freq.

For $200 more you can get the SVS PB12-NSD/2 which has mondo output. This adds more output across the whole sub range.

So if you want max output, consider adding the Turbo or getting the NSD/2. If you don't want the higher SPL levels, go with the Hsu sans Turbo or the PB12-NSD/V. I know SVS is, and have heard many say Hsu is, a quality company to work with.

I say this thread never makes it to 50 posts before it mysteriously disappears...

Matt,

Since your title says "Hsu... max Extention" you got the answer to your first question. Your second question is a loaded question, because the Hsu fans will say go Hsu and SVS fans will say SVS. I'm not trying to be rude, but there are lots of threads that compare the two and they all lead to one place, auguments and closed threads. Do your home work and read as much as you can about both subs.

I do think ransac gave you some good advice. You just have to choose what's most important to you. I can't speak for the SVS(though I hear it's a very good sub), but as a VTF-3 MK2 owner with a turbo, I can say the Hsu is a very impressive sub and the turbo really does add SPL without any lose of sound quality that my ears can hear. I am very happy.

See I told you each owner will chose the sub they own :) .

Contact HSU directly. There is inforomation on the HO model and the turbo add-on (have you seen what it looks like?) in the forums on hsuresearch.com

That can probably be explained by..... Hsu is a AVSforum sponsor and I'm sure they don't like paying for bandwith that tells people SVS is better than their subs.

So is Velodyne, but how many Hsu is better then Velo threads get deleted. Besides, where does it say SVS is better than Hsu or any other sub in this thread?
I was wondering when Mr. Trent was going to show up

Not likely since both are sponsors that fact alone negates your premise. Surely you two cannot be so naive to believe a non sponsor has the same say so over this forum as a sponsor? Why else would post marginally critical of Hsu mysteriously disappear so often?
Reginald, your fanboy act is growing old. Why don't you run along to HTF so that you can pimp SVS subs 24/7.

Why? Are they deleting threads that recommend Hsu subs over SVS?
