Hsu MBM-12: So whose using one?

1266 Views 6 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  RobZ
I just ordered one to go with my Hsu VTF3 MKII sub. My setup, until recently included the Klipsch THX Ultra II's and an Hsu VTF3 MKII. At high volumes the system has amazing "in the chest" feeling but lacks it at lower than window rattling volumes. I have an open design house and a baby on the way (which will make it four kids). In other words, I rarely listen above moderate levels. I always find myself increasing the sub level but lose the midbass. Therefore, I'm in need on improved mid bass at modest volume. What are your opinions on how the MBM will do?

I use one with my SVS PC12-Ultra and love the combination.

I use the MBM-12 nearfield (next to or behind couch)...for my setup it handles the 50-80hz range. The Ultra handles 50hz on down. And my mains are crossed in the AVR at 80hz.

The MBM does a real good job of giving you a tactile feel for midbass.
Does the effect remain when listening at modest levels or only when at high volume?
I use mine with a VTF3 HO and like it very much. I used the HO by itself for several months and was very happy but why waste the opportunity to spend money. I do find if the kid has been playing with the SMS-1 that if the subs are to hot that the MBM will start to complain.

Does anyone else ever get a noise from their MBM?
I have an MBM with a Outlaw LFM1-EX. I love the MBM. Great impact, even though it could be in a much better location.
As you can see from my signature, I have an MBM with dual HSU HO's and love the combination. I initially had only the dual HO's and they were good, but adding the MBM definetely added a little more umph in the mid bass area.

Yes, you will notice a difference even at low volumes, just make sure you have your system properly calibrated and have your MBM handle from 50Hz to your crossover and your sub handle 50Hz and below.

Excellent! I appreciate the feedback and advice. Too bad Hsu is out of these at the moment. I was hoping for adding one this coming week.
