Just receive my new speakers today from hsu.

Two bookshelfs speakers for left and right plus there matching center channel.

model # is for bookshelfs hb-1mk2 and center hc-1mk2,I love the sound from them. I been playing random music from jazz-to pop music etc.

The manual says for the bookshelfs there rated at 6ohm impedance and as for the center channel goes it's also rated at 8ohm impedance. So iv set my pioneer receiver to 6ohms impedance setting. will that be okay? just a bit concern setting receiver to 6ohm will that ruin the 8ohm center channel

It's not that the receiver will ruin the speakers, it's that the lower impedance speakers may cause problems for the receiver.

If you lean toward wanting maximum performance from the system, leave the setting at 8 ohms regardless of the speaker impedance.

If you lean toward more peace of mind/precautionary measures, set the selector at 6 ohms, or which ever setting most closely matches the majority of your speakers.

To reiterate what whoaru said, running 6 ohm speakers at 8 ohms is not a problem. The reverse is not a good idea.

You don't run a 6ohm speaker at 8ohms. OR vice versa. The speaker dictates the impedance at which the amplifier operates. Whether an AVR's 6ohm setting is used or not, a 6ohm speaker will operate at 6ohms. Same is true with an 8ohm speaker. With the switch set to 6ohms, an 8ohm speaker will still operate at 8ohms.

The 6ohm setting reduces the current to the amplifier so that when it is being operated at 6ohms (as dictated by the attached speaker), the amplifier will not overheat. In this configuration, the amplifier will not deliver as many watts of power to the 6ohm speaker as it would were the 6ohm setting not being utilized. In other words, that setting 'throttles back' the amps.

Those speakers are probably conservatively rated at 6ohms, AvGeek07. Many AVRs that may not be rated for it can drive a 6 (and even 4) ohm load with no issues. As whoaru pointed out, you should try and operate them without resorting to using the 6ohm setting if possible.

Thanks so much for the reply's.

so either way it will work. I was just confuse when i read that. thanks again

Well, it is likely that your amp will work fine with a 6ohm speaker without having to resort to using the 6ohm switch. If you have issues, then you would need to use the 6ohm setting. If the amp doesn't like the load, it will probably go into protect mode. You may want to email HSU and ask them about it but I suspect they will say that the receiver will be just fine operating normally (i.e. without using the 6ohm switch).
