Hi Guys,

I was interested in the STF2 and VTF2. An email from HSU indicated that the VTF2 was better but so far they haven't given me much details as to what is better. Anyways, I'm in Canada and I went to a dealer here that sells both subs. First time I went in I was impressed with the STF2. I watched the Hulk - the escape in the desert scene - as well as the famous scene in the Haunting. Then I took a friend again to listen to it, but this time I listened to the VTF2. I noticed a bloop bloop as Hulk landed on the ground. The bloop bloop I think is when a sub is bottoming out. Even the dealer (American sound - they sell pretty high end stuff), was saying that it should not do that.

Anybody experience those bloop bloop or bottoming out.

I am now looking into the new Energy sub S10.3 which is advertised to go as low as 21Hz.

Anyone check the set-up?

More than likely its a set-up issue. Many dealers just swap subs and don't re-adjust the balance to suit the new sub. Of course you can bottom pretty much anything with a high enough input and a heavy twist of the amps volume knob.

But unless your trying to play at deafening levels, the VTF-2 and/or STF-2 should not bottom. I would say set-up or perhaps that sample has "a fault". Its not a known problem with the VTF-2 model.

The energy sub will not come close to the Hsu. Although if you can put them in the same room (if you can't do it together then forget giving impressions, doing so is meaningless) you can let us know what you find.

I would not say that it was bottoming out, that would sound more like a loud metal on metal “clack†from what I have heard (I have never bottomed a sub). The “bloop†was probably the sub being pushed too hard and distorting. I also agree that the sub was probably not set up right.

The sound that bass drivers produce when bottoming down is one of more mechanical "qualities" than anything else...like a loud "CLACK" just as the above poster indicated.

The "bloop-bloop" sound you heard would be more like dynamic compression...when every part involved in the subwoofer design--driver surround, spider and voice coil, vents if so equipped, amplifier power, etc.--becomes unlinear, thus is very audible...

NO.

I'm in TO.

I have to find out if there are other dealers around the area for another demo.

So, that "bloop bloop" sound is normal if we don't configure things right? So even a good sub like the HSU can do it. I have to go listen to it again before deciding.
