Since the rebate expires soon, i'm about ready to buy the HT-1000 but would like to see one in action. Is there an AVS Member in the Houston area who would be interested in letting me see their setup? I would be happy to bring along some of your favorite beverage.

Am not having any luck finding an HT-1000 to demo.

Did most of you HT-1000 owners buy your units without first viewing performance? It seems like a lot of money to spend just on faith. Having trouble with WAF, also. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I bought mine on faith sight unseen after -

A: reading at least 7 positive reviews on the web from different sources and -

B: realizing that my first choice ( Optoma H56 - never see that one mentioned around here ) would not work at the throw distance I needed to mount it at ( about 12',or else 24' which was too far for a 92" wide screen ).

If I decide someday to buy a pj that costs over $ 7000.00, I'd want to see it in person.

I too will have to buy sight unseen and have the opportunity now. The opportunity yes . . . but the immediate cash? Well, maybe, but I am not quite comfortable with the cash-on-hand right now.

This thing has always had some kind of rebate people tell me.

So, I wonder.

And I remain a tad unhappy about the cost of these ^**! bulbs too!

maybe after the rebate ends, there will be another ht1000 promotion that is even better.

I bought my x1 when it was $1500 because of the 5 year warranty. Then later, the prices on the x1 dropped!

Thanks guys for the replies. After thinking more about it, probably one of the main reasons we have a super forum like this is because we don't usually have a chance to directly demo the pieces of A/V gear we are interested in. Forum members are willing to share their experiences with us to make our decisions a little easier.

After saying that, I'm still not sure I have b---s to pull the trigger.

I nearly bought mine without seeing it based soley on the reviews and spec. I already had a Davis DLS8 so guessed I wouldn't see rainbows, but still thought I ought to see one.

It was even better than I thought. :)

If you're not sure if you're susceptable to rainbows, then you really should see one though.

I saw one on demo, thought it was ok for the price but not spectacular, and pulled the trigger. Got it, set it up, calibrated it, and am happy to note that it's better than the demo I saw.

How much is the rebate by the way?

There is a $500 rebate or $1895 MSRP anamorphic lense for purchases made by September 30. There had been a couple of $150 rebates before the current $500 rebate. You never if there is a better rebate deal around the corner.

At some point you are going to have to bite the bullet... Like the sultan of cheap said... its only money. Life is too short to worry about this stuff. There is always going to be new and better products at better prices. The market is attempting to get cleaned up. This is actually a good time to bite the bullet. The other option is to keep waiting ... oooo ahhhh ... the price of this... or that is going down...next month.... oooh ahhhh Cedia show coming up... new releases.... uuuuuu ahhhhh the rebate may be better next month...... meanwhile.... no fun... and those hairs growing in every orifice keep growing (some are falling out..and some are turning grey).... you are not going to live forever, and home theater is the best bang for the buck... to enjoy with family and friends.

Trust me on this one.. Get it ... enjoy it.. don't look back for another 9 months... prices are always dropping...specs keep getting better...

Let me make some logical sense out of your dilemna... look, your eyesight keeps deteriating as you get older at a faster pace than the technology is getting better. So the longer you wait... the worse off you will be.

take a deep breath... get out that check book... phone up Allan this morning and get the thing ordered man. Trust me ... after you do it you will feel like you just dropped some Viagra, a burden will be lifted, and you will be able to sleep better at night. If you are single chicks will dig you and your new toy... If you are married... your wife won't bother you wanting sex anymore as she will be pooped out from watching movies.

See there is no down side.
