Owens Corning Announces Franchising Opportunities with New Visionaire FX(TM)Personal Entertainment Center

New Distribution Strategy of Home Theater System Helps Builders Respond to Growing Home Theater Industry

TOLEDO, Ohio, May 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Homeowner interest in personal home theater systems has exploded into an $11 billion industry. In response, Owens Corning (NYSEWC), a leader in home building materials, has announced that their new Visionaire FX(TM) Personal Entertainment Center will now be available as a franchise, extending availability of this popular entertainment offering.

Research supports the growing demand for home theaters. Reports from Frost and Sullivan estimate that growth in the home theater industry topped 35 percent in 2000 and is expected to continue its explosive growth into 2001 and beyond. For example, 20 percent of households reported having some type of home theater system in 1999, compared with only 4 percent of homes that had them in 1995.

As the technology in the entertainment industry continues to grow -- as with DVD players and digital televisions -- the demand for an acoustically tuned home theater system increases as well. Typically, when a consumer upgrades an electronic device, they upgrade the entire system, add on to an existing system or create a home theater style entertainment system.

"Our objective is to establish a national network of franchisees who will be licensed to sell and install the Visionaire FX system," said George Keimle, vice president and president, Insulating Systems Business, Owens Corning.

"There is a tremendous demand for builders to incorporate home theater upgrade packages in their homes. By franchising this product, it will provide direct local market access and an effective working relationship with the custom homebuilder. The result will be improved product quality and increased customer satisfaction."

The Visionaire FX Personal Entertainment Center, launched in February 2001, is the first home theater system that includes acoustic, architectural and electronic elements in one complete, affordable package. It is a totally installed solution and is a valuable sales package for builders when dealing with customers looking for new homes and planning home remodeling projects.

"What homeowner wouldn't want their own personal movie theater? The Visionaire FX Personal Entertainment Center offers the real movie theater experience in the comfort and convenience of the home," said Wayne Power, general manager, Acoustic Systems Business, Owens Corning. "And with completely installed prices starting under $29,000 for the homeowner, it's an affordable upgrade for today's new generation of homes."

Franchises will be awarded on a regional or territorial basis to qualified businesses. The geographic boundaries will depend upon existing and new-start housing information in combination with various demographic data such as median income and buying preferences.

"Ideal Owens Corning franchisee candidates should be experienced, well- respected businesses currently selling and installing products and services to residential builders and homeowners," said Ralph McGrath, business manager, Franchising and Visionaire FX, Owens Corning. "Candidates should have ongoing working relationships with major builders in their local area and routinely call on these builders on a frequent basis."

The Visionaire FX package, which includes architectural designs by renowned home theater designer Theo Kalomirakis, comes complete with all of the elements required to create a movie theater environment in the home: video projection system, letterbox-format screen, Dolby Digital surround sound, architectural components (theater chairs, speaker columns, acoustical panels, lighting, etc.).

Visionaire FX includes two designs -- the Sophisticate and the Connoisseur -- and is sold to fit in several different room sizes with various options for lighting, seating and electronic components.

Businesses awarded the franchisee designation will receive extensive installation and sales training, support and exclusive access to the Owens Corning brand. They will also receive an Owens Corning Welcome Kit with several merchandising elements ranging from a virtual tour CD to a sample board of fabric options.

"Franchising does not require businesses to hire new trade professionals and there is only minimum training needed for existing installers," said McGrath. "The profit margins for franchisees on each sale of the Visionaire FX Personal Entertainment Center also make it an attractive business venture."

A complete listing of franchisee qualifications and application details are available by calling 1-800-GET-PINK. Builders can also get more information, including a virtual tour of the Visionaire FX Personal Entertainment Center, by visiting www.owenscorning.com . Owens Corning is a world leader in building materials and composites systems. The company has sales of $5 billion and employs approximately 20,000 worldwide."

I'm not sure if the Franchise thing is fantasy or reality(with the advent of the internet), but which DLP projectors will they use? With that intro price it's hard to imagine they could use Runco otherwise their budget would be shot.

These guys are already behind in technology before they get started. Quick, somebody show them a D-ILA and DD ES!
