Any guess when we will see the first projectors designed for home theater with the TI HD2 chip which, as I understand it, has the 12 degree tilt and improved blacks (correct if wrong)? And with the HD2 and the new spiral (I know that's the wrong term) color wheel?

CRT FPTV owner desperately seeking digital proj so he can throw CRT out. (HD1 projs are very, very close.)

Ahhh, guesses. http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

All of the following comes from my crystal ball (which is probably just as bad as everyone else's). http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

The "spiral wheel" was a TI technology demo earlier this year at InfoComm (the BUSINESS projector show). It will probably show up in business projectors before HT projectors and probably not for two years.

The HD2 chip has not been shown (someone correct me if I'm wrong) so is vaporware, right now. Based on the HD1, After the HD2 is shown to the public, it will be 12-24 months before products using it show up. Again, based on the HD1 and TI's stated intention to really go after the RPTV market, I'd expect the HD2 in RPTVs first and projectors 9-12 months later. This puts HD2s in HT projectors about 18-36 months after it is first shown. Again, the HD2 has not been shown, yet.

Then again, what do I know? http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif Maybe we will see HD2 projectors at CES and they will ship before next football season?

By the way, not to hijack your thread but, what is it about the Sharp or other HD1 based projectors you don't like? I'm just curious.

I'm also wondering the same! The new developement is called SCR - sequential color recapture. This uses the newly developed color wheel called the Archimedes.

In conjunction with the 12 degree rotation of the new DMD this could be the holy grail of DLP projectors.

I do not believe an SCR-equipped projector has been publicly shown, as far as I know only the raw colour wheel was on display at Infocomm.

Depending on how fast TI is with it, we could see them next year (hey, maybe even prototypes early next year). Most of the difficult work is on the TI side because they have to program the switching of the mirrors to match the new colour wheel.
