I am purchasing a new Receiver for my home theater set up. I have never had any HT set up other then the Home Theater in a Box.

I have a Pioneer Kuro 60inch tv and I just purchased Energy Speakers (2 - C-300 Tower Floorstanding, 2 - C-R100 Surround, 1 - C-C50 Center Channel, and 1 - ESW-8 8-Inch Subwoofer). The room is about 11 x 19 with 9 foot ceilings.

I have a PS3 as a Blue Disc Player and HD TV From Cablevision.

I am looking to spend around $600 or so on the Receiver.

This will never be a 7.1 set up. 5.1 only.

What would you recommend?

I was thinking any of these but I have no clue what I am doing.

Pioneer VSX-1018AH-K

Onkyo TX-SR806

Thanks in advance for your help.

I do not have experience with these models but I was in the same boat as you looking for a receiver. After some research I went with the HK AVR 354. I ordered it yesterday.

One of the things that made me want to go with them was that HK are know for being easy to use. Since you said this is all new to you that might be a benefit. Here is a quote from a CNET review

"Harman Kardon also puts a big emphasis on making products easy to use, and we have to admit that the company's manuals are a cut above the competition."

Good luck,
