I, like many here, want the 4 seat angled arrangement with armrests in-between each seat. My fallback from that would be to get a center love seat anchored by angled HT recliners (looking at Lane, L-Z-B and Berkline). My fallback from that would be to get retractable arm rests on a straight line four seat setup.

My wife wants a sectional that she can lie down on and has a pullout bed for company. Her fallback is a sectional that she can lie down on and has a pullout bed for company.

ugh

She has caved on each and every one of my HT demands to date but I am stuck here. For the record I'm not making an elite Home Theatre as our basement is simply not big enough (and we need play room for kids). I'm doing fairly well though with my 5.1 system, 57" Hitachi and have even received approval to put an antenna on the roof of our bran-spankin-new house. ahhh concessions.

I had an idea while we were looking at furniture. I can't stand those horrid sectional recliners so why can't I substitute one solitary HT seat with dual arm rests next to the sleeper sofa portion followed by out end section (you know that WAF friendly seat with an extended ottoman like leg rest). I could angle my chair and that would alleviate the head turning concern and still be fairly centered within my sound system.

Has anyone tried to do this? If so, how does it look? If I went with one supplier I could match the fabric but the cushion pattern and overall height will likely be different (the wife seems ok with this for now).

I'm looking at La-Z Boys' Matinee HT seat with one of their sectional designs. I haven't researched Lane or Berkline yet.

Comments and suggestions welcome... very welcome.

That's called a "Chase" (lounge). Pronounced with a bit of a french accent...Chaz more then chase...

Anyway, do you have room for 2 rows of seating? You could put the back row on risers, put your HT style seats there, then the sofa your wife wants in front. You could have both worlds then (if you have the room).

As for combining the two in one row, I think if the fabric matched, it'd be fine. You can buy just a sofa with a chase, so that could work. Of course, the big part of the WAF for my furniture selection was the CAF of the furnature (Cuddling Ability Factor). Your setup would have a CAF of zero, which may or may not lower the WAF (it often ups the value from a {married} male point of view).

Regardig CAF I think we'll have enough room but my wife usually sleeps a LOT while watching movies so she isn't all about cuddling as it inhibits her snoozing.

I set up the room to put in an elevated second row once the kids grow up. Until then it is blocked off by a half wall and used for their play room. Part of the flexibility of starting a family...

I would go with a good reclining HT seating, and a Murphy bed on the side. if it is an FP room there should be enough room to put a Murphy bed on the side between the seating and the screen. Also this means that the seats can recline (no need of a sectional to lie on) and the guests will sleep more comfortably since all pull out beds deteriorate over time (has to do with a constantly folded mattress).

That was the most laugh out loud comment I've heard all day! Thank you for letting me know I'm not alone in the world!!!

As for your chair dilemma....I'm not qualified. But I hope you figure something out that makes you AND your wife happy.

Best Regards,

Darin
