the speakers are too darn big. For the $$ this HTIB system really delivers, however, my living room is on the small side at 13 ' X 22 ' and these speakers would stick out like a sore thumb.

Does anyone have a reccomendation for a smaller set up with similar performance at the $500 price point. I will be hooking it up to a 40XBR800 if that makes a difference. My tv is in the corner of the room. A 5:1 setup is ok too....

Thank you!

Look into Pioneer, Panasonic, and Samsung for good sounding options without the bulk. I understand that JVC may also be worth considering, but have no personal experience with them.

I don't have a problem with the size of the 770 speakers, but do have a question:

Is there anything--e.g., one of the Polk speaker sets plus some receiver--that would be significantly better than the Onkyo hts-770, for a price of up to $1000?

(Some of the Polk system with floor-standing speakers look interesting; anybody with any info?)

Has anyone seen the HT-S770 yet. I ordered mine a week ago and no one seems to have them yet. Oh, the silver, I ordered from jr.com and they have the black but not the silver. And I havent been able to find them anywhere else.

I called Onkyo directly today and spoke to a very helpful woman. She said the black 770's would be shipping out this week, however, the silver version will not be shipped to ANY suppliers until June 21st.

I almost jumped on the Onkyo HT-S760 discount deals a few weeks ago before I found out about the HT-S770 with Dolby PLIIx. I've been reading, though, that Dolby PLIIx is more suited for a 7.1 system. It's interesting that the S770 wasn't upgraded to a 7.1 system to take full advantage of PLIIx.

First time poster here, being lurking for a while though. I would have purchased the S760 if it wasn't for this site.

I ordered the S770 on thursday from JR and it arrived on Monday! I don't have any major complaints yet and every thing except my xbox is hooked up.

yep, i changed my order for the S770 from silver to black and should have mine next Tues or Weds because of the holiday.

CoolinLA:

I hear ya on the PLIIx issue. I also almost jumped on a S760 a couple weeks ago. Once I read about the sub upgrade and the watts /chnl upgrade, i knew it was worth waiting for.

Really it shouldn't be called 7.1 since the two back rear speakers are NOT discrete. I think 6.1+ or 6.1 enhanced would be a better name, because 7.1 implies 7 discrete channels with 1 discrete sub which it doesn't have.

Just get an Onkyo 502 receiver and do the Polk 6736 speaker package. I could do that at my store all day for $1000. It's just a version of the 502 that is in the 770 package, right? I know the 760 had a version of the 501. Or for around $850, go with the Infinity TSS750 speaker package. It's 5.1, but those satellites are nice for the money. The 502 is only a 6.1 receiver, so in theory you could order an extra satellite for PLIIx work, but IMHO one extra satellite won't make a difference.
