After reserching all projectors in the $3-$4k proce range the HT-1000 seems to fit the bill. My final questions is, can this projector stand up to the use as an everyday TV or should I forget about a projector for this use and go with a grand wega?

If you have a light controlled area and are aware of the bulb life (2000 hours in eco mode) and can accept the replacement cost...........then yes.

Mine gets used almost daily for a few hours....1100 hours after 9 months.

Why not? It was my first answer (I brought the HT-1000 on vacation, with a Sherwood DVD-amp combo and a Dali speaker minisystem to allow the whole family watching Star Trek even away from home :p ).

But the second was: why? The bulb is more expensive than a traditional TV to watch the news... Are you allergic to a cheap 4:3 $120 TV set? ;)

Maybe it would be best to pick up a cheap bigscreen (on closeout or used) for everyday use. I know there is an Apex 65" Bigscreen HDTV I saw for $1200--In all odds crap, but good enought for everyday use.
