Need some advice here.

I will be finishing my home theater room around Christmas time. I am going back and forth on whether to wait until December or early 2004 to purchase a FP or take advantage of the HT1000 promotion now. The HT1000 will be in the box until I finish the room (If I can contain myself.)

Do you think there will be another promotion later on this year or early next???

Need to decide, sitting on the fence is starting to hurt .

How old are you? If you're young I can't answer.

I'm 54. Hell, there aint all that much time left when you're 54.

After 50 the years start going by twice as fast. It's not going to be long before I'm getting social security (if there's anything left then).

I aint waiting for anything any longer.

Tough call! Do you see anything else out there on the PJ horizon that would tempt you, or is the HT1000 far and away the PJ you want?

In general this market is evolving so quickly, I just can't imagine that prices won't continue to drop. But, if sitting on the fence is starting to become a pain in the *** (yes, pun intended) then buying now isn't the worst thing. The HT1000, IMO, is already so good that it's a great value.

Good luck with the decision. It sounds like no matter what you decide, you'll have a PJ ready to go when the room is completed, which is great. No sense waiting for the next best thing (unless it's imminent and coming very soon) when you have a room that's ready for a PJ!

do some slow searches on the HT1000 going back to Oct last year and you'll find someone always talking about getting in on the then-current rebate.

i doesn't seem like more than 2 weeks have gone by in the life of this product where there wasn't some kind of rebate offer available (although the current $500 promo is the most generous so far, i believe).

since NEC dropped their msrp just a few weeks ago by $500, but haven't adjusted their dealer pricing (yet), i would think that chances are better than 50/50 that the price will drop sometime after Sept. 30 and before Christmas sales start.

not only do i think the street price will drop (probably by $500) i'll bet another rebate will be there too by the end of the year.

since in your case it would just be sitting in a box the next two months at least, i would defintiely wait .

NEC told me that they have quite a few HT1000s in stock. I don't see them letting prices go up at the same time as they get more competition. I would wait unless you want to put it on a table and use it now.

Prices around here rarely go up for a specific model. It has probably happened with projectors in a niche where the manufacturer (JVC) was sitting on their hands, but there are plenty of DLP products and so HT1000 prices should be stable or go down.

IMHO, you should wait until you have your room ready, and then make your purchase.

I own the HT1000 and would buy it again, but you're talking almost an internity between now and the new year.

If you could use the HT1000 in another room before your HT room is ready, that might be a good reason to buy now. But if it's just going to sit in a box, wait.

If the room is not ready yet and you wont be using it in a temporary way then definately wait... Prices fall simple as that.

Another factor is that, according to Alan, there is still something significant and worth waiting for on the immediate horizon. If this materializes before you purchase, it might exert further downward pressure on prices. If I could not use the PJ now anyways, I would wait until I could use the Pj to buy it.

NEC will probably go back to the $150 rebate at some point. Maybe they'll extend this latest promotion and maybe not. You'll only gambling $350 so you could wait. Unless like other have said, if you'e going to spend the money anyway and can make use of the PJ now. Times a wasting.

This thing Alan is talking about if it's NEC, it's most likely the K bulb which just makes the PJ brighter. Maybe this would be better for larger screens but I don't think it will make the picture any better.
