I am getting the Onkyo HTS790, and am wondering if I should get some Speaker Wire or not?

http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...ormat=2&style=

If it does improve quality by rewiring the Onkyo HTS790, how do I do it? Will I be able to correctly rewire the system? Do I need these "bananna plugs" that they also sell?

I tried searching for awhile to find out "How To" rewire speakers, but I couldn't find any information at all. Will this roll of 100 ft speaker wire be usable for all my 7.1 system? If so, do I just cut the speaker wire? How do I cut it? I need to know if all I need to buy is that wire from monoprice, or if I should get some other things as well??? I'm about to place my order soon.

Any information or links on how to simply rewire a system like the HTS790 would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I own the HT-S790S and chose to upgrade the wire right off the bat. So was there a huge improvement? I don't know but the wires that come with the system are down right hideous. Way to thin and since I was running them into and out of my crawl space I wanted something a bit more sturdy.

How do you do it? Well it's pretty straightforward just make sure you have the polarity correct (ground wire and non-ground) matching what you run back to the receiver hookups. The wire is good for all your speakers. Make sure you leave enough slack if your going to be placing the receiver in a component shelf that isn't open in the back. Nothing is more frustrating as when you don't have and open back and are a little short on length.

You do not necessarily need the banana plugs. They are more of a luxury item unless you plan on hooking and unhooking your connections on a somewhat frequent basis. If your just hooking everything up and then leaving it alone then I really don't see the benefit.

Monoprice is a great place for all your wires and hdmi cables etc.. They had an RCA cable that you can use to upgrade the cable that runs to your subwoofer. I bought it cause it was really cheap and seemed more sturdy than the supplied cable.

You can get a wire stripper to expose enough wire. If you use a knife, make sure you cut just the plastic and not the wire itself, or you have to start over. You want all the metal intact.

You can use a knife or scissors, but wire strippers are easiest.

If you don't have banana plugs, skip that part and insert the bare wire into the speaker terminals.

12ga might be hard to insert in your Onkyo speaker terminals due to the thickness.

You can pick up wire strippers at Radio Shack or a hardware store. Many different types to choose from.
