I have a HTPC hooked up to an old HD monitor (RCA 61"). I'm using the Visiontek Radeon 2600HD (AGP). I'm having color washout.

I am using the Video Out port (pins 5,6 and 7 on S-Video for YPrPb breakout dongle/adapter) to component inputs on TV. Everything displays fine, just the color problem.

Should I opt for the DVI-to-Component (YPrPb)? Would this correct the color or am I missing something else?

Using both SageTV and XBMC

I am a little confused by your post.

Do you mean you are only getting black and white images?

3 cable YPrPb component is 4 pins, one for each "color" connector and one for common ground.

S-video will default to B&W if it does not sense the correct impedence from the receiving unit.

I meant the color looks washed out. It's there, it's just faded. I'm using the 7 pin Component breakout that uses the "S-Video" connector and only uses pins 5-6-7 (plus gnd but, I thought that went without saying).

What I want to know is, is it worth it to order the DVI-to-Component adapter? Will that give me a better signal quality?

Surprisingly, my wife suggest a new TV but, I won't hear of it. I love my 61" RCA RPT. It has one of the most amazing pictures.

Thanks for the help BTW.

It is not an S-video connector it is a 7 Pin din connector that can suppport either S-Video, 1 cable Composite cable or a 3 cable YPrPb dongle conector.

When you configure it does it show up as as Component?

Your TV most likely sets and save your color settings such as contrast etc separatly for eacy interface connection.

What resolution(s) are you sending from what resolution sources to the the TV over the component connection?

If a CRT TV is it capable of scanning at either 480i or 1080i?

I am aware of the three types of connectors supported on the "S-Video" connector.

It is the inputs I use for my FiOS TV. I only have one set of component inputs on the TV and have to use a Component switch. Either way, through the switch or connected directly it looks the same. And it does use cathode tubes.

Since the TV is an old CRT TV it may not scan any higher then 480i even if it can can accept a 1080i component input it may just downscalt the 1080i input to 480i.

If this is the case then just sending the TV 480i over s-video may produce better PQ then sendinging it 1080i over component.
