Recently setup a HTPC system and have ran into a stump.

I'm running a rather simple setup:

HTPC >> hdmi >> HDTV >> digital optical out (toslink) >> Logitech Z-5500

Now the issue that I've ran into is that the TV can only digitally output @ PCM which is a 2 channel stereo signal, thus not taking advantage of the hardware decoding on the Z5500 receivers.

I'm deciding between returning my current mobo which doesn't have an onboard optical port so I can hook up the speakers directly into the HTPC.

or

Using analog 5.1 from the onboard sound when using the HTPC and continue to use the digital signal for live TV.
