If you hook up an LCD projector to your HTPC using a VGA connection, do you end up with a progressive display? Or does a projector display the entire screen at once? Frame by frame? I have no idea how these projectors work. Could someone explain?

LCD as well as DLP projectors are linear devices, meaning

there cannot be any flicker as it is witnessed with CRT systems. Therefore it does not make sense to drive those devices with an interlaced signal. The problem is every LCD or DLP unit has to have a de-interlacer but normally the companies do not spend to much on those parts.

If you use an HTPC you will certainly have the biggest bang for you buck as far as the deinterlacing/scaling device of your system is concerned.
