I just upgraded one of my computers which has a AIW 7500, from Win98 to XP. I did a clean install to an empty hard disk, rather than upgrade over the old OS, since I didn't want old unnecessary files left behind.

I downloaded the current Catalyst 3.2 drivers and MMC 8.1 from atitech.com. Followed their install directions, and all went well, except I couldn't install ATI's DVD player. It requests the original driver CD in order to upgrade, but wouldn't accept the one that came with my 7500. I don't use ATI's DVD player so I didn't care.

I upgraded last weekend and all is working well so far. I have been using WinDVD 4.5 to play DVDs, and MMC for some video capture.

My recommendation is also to do a CLEAN install rather than upgrading. I suspect that it will work just fine, even though you have not given much detail about your system.
