HTPC to Onkyo HTS-790?

Hi there,

Home theater newbie here. Can one hook up there HTPC to the Onkyo HTS-790 receiver, or any home theater receiver for that matter, and use those speakers instead of PC speakers? If so where do you plug them in to? I have a HTPC, XBOX, DVD player and and InFocus 4850 projector that I want to hook upto a single dedicated receiver. I know I can hook up most of those things but am just unsure if I can use a HT receiver and speakers with a PC. Any input is appreciated.

Yep, you can. If your PC has a digital output (either coaxial or optical) and your receiver has the matching input, I'd recommend using that. I have my HTPC connected to my receiver with a digital coaxial cable, and I also have a Powermac G5 connected with optical.

If your PC doesn't have digital outs, you can always get a cable like this:

Stick the one end into the headphone jack on the PC, the other end into your receiver, and you're all set.
