HTPC -> Toshiba 62HM195

617 Views 11 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  mikeyari
I am pondering picking up this television(Toshiba 62HM195) to hook up to my HTPC, however I was looking at the owner's manual online and apparently in LARGE BOLD LETTERS they state

"NEVER CONNECT THIS TV TO A PERSONAL COMPUTER (PC)" THIS TV IS NOT INTENDED FOR USE WITH A PC.

What gives? I thought if I set up my PC with WinXP Pro, SageTV and a DVI-HDMI cable I should be able to receive television perfectly OK.

Is this a mistake on my part? Do I have to use Svideo/Composite Video feeds to get use this Television. Forgive me, I'm a little bit new to this HTPC field so I'm not sure how this exactly works in terms of connections, and what I can/can't do.

Pretty sure they're just saying that to save their asses. Should work perfectly well. Don't quote me on that though ;)
Anybody else wanna throw in their 2 cents? I thought that too klone but it would be a shame to get a TV I can't even use for this purpose.
read the Toshiba 62HM195 thread dude? Surely they have some HTPC stuff in there?
I have the 56MX195 and it works beautifully with my htpc. The HM series is essentially the same minus a few unnecessary options. I run a DVI-HDMI cable at 1920X1080 resolution.
I have a hm195 also and would like to set up a HTPC but the big bold warning made me a little nervous. I have read lots of threads and it appears that despite the warnings lots of people have been successful without damage to the tv. But ultimately I am not really sure why they have the warning.

I could use a little guidance. I want to set up a HTPC. I am looking to store and play DVDs/CDs and use my Toshiba 72hm195 as a monitor for standard PC applications but I dont think I really need DVR capabilities in the HPTC since I have a Moxi DVR through my cable provider. It might be best to get a "HTPC in a box", as I am fairly clueless in relation to technology. Any simple suggestions?
Yeah I've got the 62MX195 as well and it works a treat through my PC through DVi-HDMI.
So I got this Television, I absolutely love it. But when I try to run a DVI-D->HDMI cable from my Radeon 9800 Pro to my TV, I can't seem to get any legible display. It's all warped and whacky. I tried a bunch of settings and timings from a powerstrip thread I found, but no luck. what video cards are you guys using that you're having such good luck with them?

Any help would be appreciated! :)

My friends my friends I come to bring yee the good news!!!

Yes you can hook up your htpc to your ..watch this now...Toshiba 62hm195 model tv..get this now...via hdmi input!!!! Yes!!!

Picture quality is awsome!!! I hooked mine the day I got I-03-06!!!

I to had the ATI 9800 PRO paid like $250 bucks for then another $29.00 or so on powerstrip.....let me tell you I got 1080i via hdmi with this combo!!!

Get this.....I bought for $114.00 a geforce 7600gs card and man.....BAM!!!...I`m doing 1080P @60 with just a click of button.I can get like five resolutions?

With the ati card I could get "1080i" via component video inputs and you could tell it was interlaced because you could see the picture slightly jitter.

I tell you now I`m doing the 1080p clean and solid as rock via hdmi just as sure as I`m typing on my 62" right now.

I can tell you I never had a single problem with this st as far a hooking up pc.

The reason they warn aganst it is because trying to configure powrstrip or other software can damage a perfecty good tv.

My system spec.....the Intel975bx motherboard, Pentium 930 D processor, Geforce 7600GS pci express 16 card, antec 550watt 2.0 powersupply. ( do not get this supply i only comes with a 6 pin cord you need a 8 pin cord for this motherboard.

I have read in the tv forum bout people doing 1080i via hdmi on our sets by just upgrading to a nvida 6200 card.

I think it`s in the nvidia software to tell you the truth.

Not to burst your bubble, but many of us have been hooking up our htpcs with these models through HDMI for a long time. Also, you are not getting 1080p from your HTPC through HDMI. The television simply can not do it.

Do you think I`m new to the htpc world? this bubble can`t be burst. Have you been oing it with the Ati card? I mean, if you`ve been doing this for a long time then why come at me, I trying to answer people`s questions about the tv and you think you`re teaching me something new about the tv? If you already knew all this then why don`t try answering these questions for others. :D

I already knew that the sammy and HP models can do 1080P from a pc and it has been widely noted that this tv cannot except the signal. I was uprised when it sync t 1080P. I did think I might have gotten it though. My bubble can`t be burst because I went from a ati card full of nightmares and got what I wanted in all of two seconds nvidia card.

I thought I share this....although I never claimed to be the first person to discover this, in fact I got the information from a guy here bout he nvidia 6200 card months go, but instead spent months trying to get my expesive ati crap card to do a simple 1080i res via hdmi.

What I don`t know is why is it not 1080p if it says it is? I think I read that it has to be at 24fps instead of 60 or something to that nature?
