Howdy folks, New to the forum(posting that is!)

losing my marbles over this issue.


When watching any source video(DVD/Blu-ray/HD/ External MKV's etc..) Regardless of software playing etc.

I get a horizontal line across the screen that goes from top, to bottom.


I have swapped out cards starting with a ATI 2400HD to the ATI 3850


Have a core2 Duo E8800/4MB Cache/2GB RAM ... pretty standard

Also the Auzen X-fi Prelude 7.1 Card.


Video card is in PCIe slot above Auzen card.

Have swapped out two case power supplies to rule out power issues. Corsair 550W's and the original 400w unit.

NO dice.. no change.

Any thoughts??

Drivers/bios and such.. all up to date.

Also loaded Vista to test.. Same same..

Plug my el cheapo insignia Blu-ray player in... and.. No issues.

Yep, definitely a ground loop.

It was indeed the problem.

3 hours of plugging in/unplugging different components to confirm which was the culprit.

Turns out it was one of the battery/backup device(line conditioners)

Put it on the same circuit as the HTPC and.. woila..

It's always great to hear of a problem solved.


I have a question: Do you remember when the problem started?

That is, was the power conditioner newly added, or did this problem slowly occur over time?
