I've got a HTPC that I've built, and seems to work fine (for now) running the Cineplayer 4.0. I'm looking at getting a CRT projector shortly, and I'm wondering if the picture quality from my HTPC is equal or better than the Skyworth player through VGA out. The cost on the player isn't bad, it's multi-region, and macrovision free, so it shouldn't mess up the projector's output, and the price isn't so bad. Is there a comparison between this standalone player and software playback? Please let me know, especially from someone who has/had both running t the same time. Thanks.

Check out Frode's post . The Skyworth will do better than an HTPC for video-sourced and improperly flagged material. Overall picture quality of the HTPC will likely be better depending on the scaling quality of your projector. I believe that CRTs are not as sensitive to scaling artifacts as digital projectors, however. I agree with Frode in that it's nice to have both (which I do).
