I'm getting Direct-TV next week and have decided on the Hughes E-86 receiver. This is mainly due to the fact that I'm not sure how much HDTV I'll watch, so I wanted a relatively inexpensive receiver to "test the waters".

I have a question about the optical output. Does the sound for all channels get sent through the optical output or only for the channels that are being broadcasted with Dolby Digital?

I'm hoping that I only have to connect the optical output to my A/V receiver and NOT have to also connect analog interconnects.

Thanks

Just make certain you go into the audio menu on the E-86 and turn the dolby digital on. This will pass everything through the optical connection.
