Spent some time this weekend finishing the Hush Box. Got it all assembled and mounted on the ceiling. I'm still waiting for the front glass and, of course, the projector. Here's a picture.

What are you using for the front glass? How close will the lens be to the glass? Any opinions or references on this subject will be appreciated.

Looks interesting - this pj really needs a hush box :)

How are you feeding air to the intake (underneath the pj) and how are you expelling air from the outlet (on the front of the pj)?

Thanks

gmshoemaker,

I'm having a piece of 1/4" glass cut for the front. I could have used single strength, but I want it to be stronger just in case something knocks up against it. The glass is supposed to be ready tomorrow. It only cost about $7.00 to have the glass cut. It will be held in place by corner moulding installed on the bottom and sides. The front of the pj will be between 2 and 8 inches behind the front glass. Positioning will depend on where the airflow is best directed. I am also considering placing the CC40R filter directly on the front glass (on the inside) so closer will be better.

Xander,

The pj will be mounted with a Chief mount inside the box. In this position, the air intake of the pj will be on top and directly beneath the air blowing injto the box from the conduit. I'm considering some front baffles to redirect the pj exhaust air down and back. The air outflow in the hush box is at the rear.

I can't finalize any of these details until the pj and mount arrive.

Thanks Traveler, I hadn't realized those were conduits. I know that with the older reel-to-reel 16mm projectors they used to mount the projection booth glass at a slight downwards angle to minimize reflection straight back into the lens. I'm definitely also going to build a hush box.

I suspect that one should try and isolate the intake vents on the pj from the output vents to prevent hot air from circulating.

Xander,

I hadn't considered putting the glass at an angle to prevent reflection, but that's not a bad idea. Unfortunately, the design as it's implemented doesn't provide for that type of modification easily. As I think about it, though, the projector does project at a slight angle downward (from it's inverted position), so perhaps that won't be a problem. We'll see what happens when the projector gets here.

In my old hush box installation I used some non reflective optically coated glass . I ordered it from Edmund scientific for around $30 for a 5X7 pane.

Recently I got rid of that box and installed the projector behind a wall using the same glass. John
