I was ready to order a Momitsu V880 this morning for my Sanyo Z2 but am having second thoughts. The Vinc units seem out of the questions relative to quality control and, although the V880 has issues too, it does seem better.

But now there will be a new batch of upconverting DVD players coming from well established manufacturers like Panasonic, Toshiba and Sony in the late summer/fall. I am sure these units will not have the same quality control issues (although they probably won't be perfect either).

For those who have already pulled the trigger, what are your thoughts? It really is only a few months to wait. For me, it isn't about better technology but rather more reliable technology. I appreciate any comments.

Zenith (DVB-318) and Samsung (HD841) already have upconverting players that are just beginning to appear on the market. With HD-DVD players on the horizon I wouldn't spend a huge amount of money on any DVD player at this time.

The Samsung HD941 (with Faroudja chip) should be out next month. Stay away from the Toshiba (it was released, got very bad reviews here, and was recalled).

You want reliable, better wait. You want a great picture, buy now, but be prepared to do some troubleshooting. I bought the Sammy 931 which had a pretty good picture, but had too many issues so I got rid of it. Now I have the V880, did the loader thing and could not be happier!

Definitely stay away from the toshiba as Bill said, I made that mistake already. I now have a v880 and am very happy. Jerry
