I made a thread earlier about the Sunfire XTEQ12 subwoofer which ended up getting locked cause of arguments. Anyways, after researching further and realizing I have more space in my room that I initially thought, I decided to get a second Paradigm Defiance X15 subwoofer in instead of the Sunfire. What really changed my mind was after speaking to a hi-fi audio specialist in real-life and he explained to me that two of the exact same subwoofers is more like 2.5 times total increase in performance, whereas two different subwoofers are less than even 2 times total increase in performance because they will cancel each other out a bit. Also, both my X15s will work better with the ARC room correction on my Anthem AVM 60 pre-amp as well.

So, I guess the opinions on this forum at least helped me research it further in real-life, so I appreciate that part. That being said, I always like to speak to knowledgeable people in real-life before spending my money on such expensive products.

Yes, two identical subs is ideal.

Of the two subs that were on the table in the other thread, a second X-15 is the better choice for integration and if done right,,,up to 6DB's more output throughout most frequencies. Good call!!

How do you like the X15? I've been considering getting an X12 for better HT performance, but wonder about musical performance. My SB-2000 is great musically, but falls a little short for HT.

The X15 is bottom-ported (but front-firing), which means there is not much space between the port and the ground. Because of this, it will likely be more musical than any of the SVS "PB" speakers because I don't think any of them are bottom-ported. Also, the bottom-porting makes it able to go a bit deeper (so I've heard). My friend has a SVS PB16-Ultra and while his Ultra is probably a bit louder than my X15, we both agree that my X15 goes a bit deeper.

All in all, I would say the X15 is sort of in-between a ported and sealed sub. It's not as loud as a front, back, or side-ported sub, but it is more musical than a front, back, or side-ported sub. It also seems to go deeper as well.

If you want highest musicality, then go for a fully sealed sub. However, Paradigm's offerings for fully sealed subs are quite expensive. And I wouldn't expect any of them to go as deep as the X15, and they probably won't be as loud either since they are fully sealed. But I am sure they are absolutely excellent subs based on Paradigm's reputation for very high quality and their high prices as well.

How well does the ARC correction work with 2 subs? Can it EQ them together, summed?
I'm not sure. All I know is that it works with two identical Paradigm subs without any issues.
