I find myself looking into the CRT forum all the time. I dont really know why but the more I look here, the more I get hooked. My thirst for knowledge just increases. Even if you don't have a CRT projector there is useful info here that can be applied elsewhere. This stuff is great. But...now, more and more I find myself perusing EBAY eyeing the CRT's for sale. This stuff is truly addicting.

If you think reading about them is addictive wait until you own one! CRT projectors provide hour after hour of setup fun...that convergence, no matter how perfect, will have you grabbing the remote and tweaking even more. :)

I watch Shreck last night it is a great experience to watch it on a well tuned CRT. The dark scenes look sooooo good. And in the bright scenes, the colors knock you socks off. I you haven't seen it posted be careful with EBay there has been a great deal of hanky panky on there lately consider a purchase from a dealer like Curt Palme, Eric Lang, Henry Fu or several others.

Yeah, I'm a pretty avid EBAYer and am quite aware of that. Thanks.

Brian,

Be careful about buying a CRT projector from an unknown seller if he cannot give you adequate answers when you ask about the condition of the tubes. Even an honest seller if he is not familiar with these things may not be capable of accurately assessing tube condition.

It's a lot less risky to buy these from sellers who are known to the home theater community. You might save a few bucks with other sellers but a projector purchase which results in one or more unusable tubes aint no bargain.

Brian,

I know exactly how you feel. I was looking at Ebay for 4 months and 2 months here at this forum almost everyday before finally getting one. I would always search for 'crt projector' at Ebay and read things that I could only imagine in my head. I had never even seen a crt projector before I bought mine. I don't get shocked easily, but when I saw the huge Barco 800, I said "you gotta be kidding". Not to mention how heavy it was. Unless you wanna pay $250 and up for shipping and pray that you get a working unit, I suggest you try and find a projector near where you live. I checked AVS Forum Classified everyday. Also, I just got a e-mail from Curt Palme about used projectors for sale. Just send him an e-mail and he'll put you on the mailing list. One last note. I had my eye on Sony 12xx series, but ended up getting Barco 800. I get very nice images even on the walls. The best feature for me is that it is very quiet. Good luck on your search for a CRT projector...

I am with you Brian, this forum is addicting. I start to shake and break out in sweat if I cannot log on at least twice a day.

I am going to echo just about everyone here on this thread. Buyer beware. It was worth the extra $$ to get piece of mind. I recently purchased my BG800 from Curt (thanks, Curt). My first projector was a BarcoVision 600-s. I purchased it on Ebay. I had to fix it before I could use it. (I dont remember the seller mentioning that it didn't work ). :mad:

I used false economy the first time around and ABSOLUTELY recommend someone like Curt to purchase a PJ from. Piece of mind is priceless.

Good luck.

The CRT forum has something the other forum don’t …I can’t quite but my finger on it.

I guess the best way to explain it is the flow of things – in the CRT forum ideas and topics flow back and forth from newbee to guru – guru to guru, there is the odd fray but nothing serious. Nothing against the other forums – I just can’t get interested. once and a while I use the DVD software forum, but other than that - the CRT forum has become my home… I feel sick if I can’t check it out 2-3 times a day (I know some of you are thinking – get a life!… I have a life.. this is a hobby)

I could not get to the forum for a while tonight. I was getting the message the server was doing a backup. I was pounding on the monitor yelling "WHY CAN’T YOU WORK". I had a severe case of C.R.T.F.W.D. Ahhh I feel better now. Do you think its time to seek professional help?

C.R.T.F.W.D. = CRT Forum Withdrawal.
