I don't understand video processors!

1309 Views 4 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  Mark Beileiter
I have a lot of old gear and a video processor.
Projector is Epson Powerlite 1080
Video processor is Epson HQV TX3
The video processor is connected to a Roku and an Oppo 93

The Oppo 93 has "its own processor". So I guess my main question is:
Is the HQV TX3 redundant or needed?
Thank you

I'm no expert on video processors, but, looking at the manuals for both your projector and processor, the projector is 1080p native and the processor is 720p native. So, I'd have to say that you are doing yourself a disservice by using the processor with your projector. As you said, your other equipment probably have better/more modern internal video processors than the Epson HQV TX3 does. So, yes, by the specs alone, I'd say you'd be better off using the internal video processors of your Oppo or Roku A/V equipment. I'm sure others will be able to give you plenty of advice as well. Good luck.

Thank you. I did not realize the processor was 720p. What you said makes sense.

Mark: I had trouble finding the manual for the HQV but I saw it was paired with another projector that had a resolution of 720 p. But if I am not reading it wrong (just some ads) the hqv is 1080.....No?
Sorry. Yes, you are correct. It is very confusing, as it's a projector/processor bundle. The processor does seem to be 1080p capable. But, you should still get a better image from the more modern video processors in your newer equipment. Good luck.
