In putting together my HT, I decided to shop on ebay to save $$.

For speakers I was planning on getting -

2 Titans + CC170 LCR

2 Atoms Surrounds

I ended up winning auctions with a combined price of $450 - the atoms/titans are 4 months old, cc170 is 2.5 years old.

With shipping (from Canada, no less), it will cost me around $520.

Retail price of this package is $600 and although the local dealers (in California) I've talked to don't discount much, unlike some stories I read of 15-20%discounts, I'm sure I can get 10% if I haggle enough. Making it $540 for brand new speakers :(

Unfortunately in the heat of bidding I paid too much and am now regretting it. I have every intention of honoring my bid too.

Let my tale of woe be a cautionary one for those out there contemplating a similar course :)

Hi Defcon,

Speaking from the other side I recently sold an item on ebay that I normally sell for $900 new for $810 used. My cost on this one was $400 (that's what I thought it was worth to me for resale so I made out like a bandit). This was one model back, and used... $90 less than a brand new one.

You definately do have to watch what you do on Ebay... caveat emptor.
