After 2 weeks of trying and nearly giving up, I got the CBS-HD turned on today. I do not live in an O & O area and my local CBS does not broadcast HD. I tried telling DirecTV I was going to use it in a vacation home, but found out it was in a Pegasus area. I asked my local for a waiver through D* but it was denied. I tried calling the local but could not get anyone to talk to me. I tried getting a friend who is a big advertiser to call and he struck out too. Wednesday, another friend said he knew the station manager and I got him to call for me. He didn't hear back until Friday (yesterday) at 4:45pm but the manager said he would be glad to give me a waiver and gave me his fax and email address. I called D* again (I had to hold 1/2 hour before I could talk to a live person) and told them to resubmit the waiver. As expected, the CSR didn't know how to do it quickly or even how the waivers actually get to the station. Finally, on my second call, I guess I sounded upset enough that they put me through to "Special Projects." The lady there listened to my story and put me on hold to talk to a "specialist." When she came back, she said to have the station manager fax a letter to them stating he would grant the waiver and waive the 45 day waiting period (first I had heard about that). She gave me a special fax number and told me what "Attention" to put it to. I then drafted the letter and emailed it to the station manager and asked him to put it on his letterhead and fax ASAP. By then he was already gone, but late last night, he got the email and sent the letter from his home. I checked this morning and I wasn't getting the CBS-HD, so I called D*. The CSR read the notes on my account and put me on hold to talk to her supervisor. When she came back, she said she didn't know if they had the letter or not, but if they did and everything checked out, CBS-HD would be turned on this afternoon. I hung up thinking it wasn't going to happen. I had channel 80 on my set in PIP and not paying much attention about 1:00 (central) and suddenly there it was. I'm getting both the East and West feeds on 80 and 81. I now take back most of the bad things I have ever said about DirecTV and my local CBS station. Superbowl Party tomorrow!
