At the beginning of the year Charter announced HDTV availability for my area. I already have their cable and internet service. On the strenght of that I purchased an Hitachi HDTV. I called to obtain service in March and was told that they didn't have enough HDTV boxes and I was put on a waiting list. I called last night to find out the status and was told that they no longer offer HDTV in my area!!!!!

I live in a very wooded area so that a dish system wouldn't work that well. More importantly the cost would have been only a monthly fee for the box rather than a significant outlay of cash. Also when you have both cable and the internet you receive a substantial reduction in the monthly bill. Now I will have to pay $20 more a month for the internet assuming I buy a satellite system. Fortunately, I am a lawyer and I will begin to send letters to them, the local and state cable commisions, newspapers etc.

Slingshot,

Just to let you know, I also called in March and have been waiting ever since. At the time, I was told there was a 2 week backorder for HD boxes. I was just about on the verge of calling them to find out what's going on and saw your post. I will be calling them tomorrow to express my displeasure. If I hear a different story I will let you know.

I also live in a wooded area, but have a line of sight to the satellites. 2 reasons for stopping my DirecTV service; Charter added SpeedVision and Broadband. Reasons for not going back to satellite? Broadband and local channels. Why can't just one service provider get their act together??!!
