God I hate Fox news. They didn't give Keighley 30 seconds to get his point across and set the facts straight and then they bring in their panel of idiots to spew more lies and BS. Am I going to to live to see the day when people understand that games are just another form of media like movies, music, and TV? Is the day going to come because **** like this just makes me lose all faith in mankind in general because you know there are legions of idiots out there eating this stuff up like it's the gospel.

They say it should have an AO rating? WTF!? There are PG-13 movies with more sex and nudity (real sex and nudity no less) than Mass Effect has and Mass Effect has the equivalent of an R rating. They refuse to acknowledge that you can play as a woman, that to unlock the whopping 2 minutes of partial nudity you have to play for 30 hours, and that it's not just random running around having sex with everyone you see and that there is an actual love story in there. GOD I HATE FOX NEWS!!! [/rant]

Video games have always been a convenient scapegoat for the media. To most people video games are kinda this sub-culture form of media that only little kids play, which is total BS since the average gamer age is now like what 23-25? I loved the part about how useless the parental controls were on the Xbox and how kids can just play games when their parents aren't around anyways. Why would they play a video game which takes over 30 hours to complete just to see a 2 minute clip of alien sideboob? Especially when they can just wait for their parents to leave and look at porn on the internet?

Once our generation (I'm 21) gets into our 30s and 40s, I think we will be able to see a lot of the undue criticism that games receive start to die off. By that time so many people of all ages will be playing video games that they won't be able to point the finger so easily without offending someone or being corrected very quickly.

This does seem pretty bad. There are gaming groups to fight back against any type of unfair legislature towards gaming. I'll try to post some links later, so we can perhaps sign-up, just in case the wolves start coming out with there uneducated finger pointing at games....again. Uniting against media like this could mean the difference between more "mature" content for us mature gamers, or all games being forced to Wii status.

Gaming does alot more good than not, IMO. As long as parents help out the industry and do their job, games should continue to progress. I think the scene in MASS EFFECT was a little bit too long, though. A kiss and then fading to black would've been just as good, IMO.

But, hey, I can't wait until there's virual reailty sex all over the place.

Since when is parenting supposed to be a walk in the park? It is not the Government or Micrsofts job to decide what games kids have in their homes.

Mass Effect has an MA 17+ rating-> The Market has done its job, the rest is up to the parent. I won't go too far but...[growing angry as I reminisce how stupid that clip was]...these lame excuses for poor/lazy/non-existent parenting is growing old.

Whoever that panel chick was who said Mass Effect should have an AO rating needs to seriously grow up or maybe actually play the game then make up her mind.

Well, I'm off to bed and now I'm angry...

I seen the scene on youtube and if thats it. These people have issues. But, movies rated R 17+ is just a ok. Its practically porn in some of those sex scenes.

Fox must be doing something right.

But do "Fox haters" have to "watch" something to hate it?

Or do they just read moveon.org and regurgitate the lingo?

It hurts to have to think for yourself. "Can't I take a college course?"

I "hate" Fox News.

But who uses the word "hate"?

The haters.

These are always the one's who preach open-mindedness to conservatives.

And then use words like hate, evil, Hitler, stupid, baby-killer, etc.

Fox "may" lean right, but at least there's usually one person arguing the other side. (unlike Bill Maher, for example)

I like to hear banter between viewpoints. If you don't - go watch MSNBC.

Keith Olbermann will be happy to tell you what to think. Also every person is a big boost to the ratings over there.

P.S. The worst person in the world today will probably be George Bush. So you don't need to watch Olbermann tonight.

AND I watch all three regularly. I miss Imus and so does MSNBC I bet

Ok fine not hate then, how about very VERY strongly dislike? And in all fairness I feel the same way about MSNBC as well, they're just as bad only at the other extreme. I dunno if you watched that video though because there was no one arguing the other side, ok actually the anchor lady there seemed a little open minded on the subject but none of their experts had a clue. O for the record I'm a conservative, a more liberal conservative than most but still a conservative. O and I don't like Bill Maher at all, I think he's a close-minded ignorant bad o' ****** who really needs some new material, we get it Bill you're against the war and you're not a fan of the president it stopped being funny in 2005.

LOL "Keith Olbermann will be happy to tell you what to think." so true, that guy is pure scum. At least Fox did have someone there to argue for the game, CNN or MSNBC would have just had the panel nothing more, everyone just trashing the game.

Regardless of whether you find Fox News despicable or not (and I do), this kind of "journalism" has found its way to other media outlets as well, including (and I would say especially) CNN. Video games rarely get good balanced press, and ultimately the job of any broadcaster is to sell soap. Point yer camera at a talking head, let him froth at the mouth for a while with his tinfoil hat ramblings, tally up the ratings, rinse, repeat.

Bottom line is that Mass Effect critics are exposed as ignorant self-serving windbags (a la Jack Thompson) and this is a windfall of free publicity for Mass Effect.

"I hate Fox News, I hate Fox News, I hate Fox News (Psst Mass Effect related) "

I give you a huge +1 for that!

Also, for those who give Fox news credit for leaning right...don't! That would give them some credibility. Sure, they lean in a direction...towards yellow journalism .

Also, Fox is the poster child for the word hypocritical. The same network that bashes games like Mass Effect for inappropriate content also airs some of the most tantalizing and controversial shows (i.e. riddled with sex and violence) on network television.

Never underestimate the power of the media and politicians using it for a quick win based on other people's ignorance. Remember Hot Coffee?

I agree with NickG1215, about how as the people who are now playing a lot (younger and probably up to 40 or so) grow up and get into politics, the perception will change. It's just the leftover old fogies who still think games are for kids. Unfortunately they're the ones in office and in charge of the media right now.

I haven't got that far yet in the game, but I'm looking forward to it. Cheap thrills, baby!

All the networks, CNN, MSNBC, and FOX all use their bias to show the news and to set forth the topics that create negativity and fear. I don't care for any one of them.

Fox and CNN put too much of a slant on things regardless if they are left or right.

Just give me the news information with no fluff please.

They must be, they managed to brainwash enough of the country to get the worst president in history 2 terms in office.

Really? Then Tony Snow dominating the Real Time panel was a figment of my imagination 2 weeks ago?

John Fund from the WSJ last week?

I think you mean "conservative blowhard a la Sean Hannity screaming over top of any one who dissents"

Olbermann is simply the yin to Fox's 24/7 panel of yangs. He's just as bad but there's clearly an audience for both in the idiocracy that is the United States.

And he'll still be right.

I guess it takes a decent news outlet to portray videogames a bit more fairly:

One guy couldn't even figure out the Barbie game, why is he allowed to talk about games?

Why talk about what CNN or MSNBC would do in a hypothetical universe? In the real universe, neither did what you claim they "would".

It is a FoxNews notion that there should be someone there to argue for different "sides" in the first place. What ever happened to journalism, where someone actually goes out and collects facts. Why have people who know nothing about the subject arguing about the "truth"? Why not just have one person say "Certain groups are upset by a love scene in a game called Mass Effect. This scene is about 2 minutes long and has about 5 seconds of a bare behind. It occurs about 25 hours into the game, if the player choses to engage in a romance subplot".

The pseudo-journalism of Fox brings in higher ratings than actual news, sadly. Since ratings equals money, CNN and MSNBC are following right along.
