I have a Yamaha 1050 - what would an upgrade do?

Hey guys,

I have a Yamaha 1050 which i know is getting old. Is there any point in looking for an upgrade? If i did upgrade what advantages would i have? I know i don't get Dolby Vision when i watch movies which is a little frustrating, but i do get all the DV content on Netflix. I have a 65AIE and honestly its not like the DV stuff is that much better than on Netflix.

I think i would stick with Yamaha since its been good to me.

Not much. The only advantage I see to upgrading in the future is maybe 48gbps HDMI 2.1 ports.

Yea as @KidHorn said not much other than 2.1 and maybe dv, digital sources to zone 2, more channels if you need them and earc.
Thanks guys, doesn't sound like i need an upgrade. I'm re-doing my set up and thought "maybe" a new receiver may be nice...but no point.
I hate the 1050 doesn't have the DV update, but again i watch DV on Netflix with my incredible TV and it doesn't look any better than 4K/HDR.
Many Blu-Ray players offer dual HDMI outputs so you can connect the video signal with DV (or 4K, or whatever feature you're seekinh) directly to your TV while outputting audio to an older AVR. So depending on what your source for the advanced video content is, you may not be missing out on almost anything.
The later Yamaha AVRs dropped Dolby Pro Logic IIx from the available surround decoders. Actually, I wished my current Marantz SR 6013 had the ability to use Dolby Surround and Dolby Pro Logic IIx as available decoders. I always liked Dolby Pro Logic IIx (Music and Movie Modes). Honestly, I am considering buying a used Yamaha RX-A1050/2050 just for the ability to use Dolby Pro Logic IIx with my Marantz SR 6013. Thank goodness that Marantz still makes AVRs with 7.1 multichannel inputs. :)
