I got crazy and bought 3 of those 8 unit universal remotes with the remote commander thing and the IR blaster. Its an awesome learning remote that was on sale at radio shack and quickly sold out. anyway, i have one extra and want to sell it, preferably, to one of you guys over the ebay crowd. I will give preference to anyone willing to sell me a 5040 working or not...

i have no 5040 ... but do you have a link to the remote you speak of? And how much ya want?
sent pm last night about this remote - if its the rf one, I'm certainly interested
this remote is the "15-2117" one that went on sale a little while back along with those $60 speakers. Im pretty sure this is the one you are talking about because everyone here was asking about it and i luckily found one wiht some...but anyway, i guess no one wants to sell me a 5040 :( , so just pm me if you still want it, with all your info, address, $, etc.

its brand new, still in packaging btw
You should really state your asking price for people to be able to decide if they're interested or not.

Don't take it too hard. Rob's one of the only two forum moderators here (ReplayTV Forum that is; but David Bott seems to be the moderator for every forum here, so for all I know he might own the board...) plus he's got the JP1 group to moderate over too. Personally, I doubt that he was "jumping your s--t", stick around a while and you'll find he's actually pretty damn cool as a mod. (more tollerant than I've ever been when I've held that title back in the dark ages of the intenet & the backbone cabal) & extremely f--king knowledgable. And, no, I don't know him personally - I take all of that from his presented e-persona.

5k's just became scarce again - happened about a year ago too - I'm not supprised one damn bit that no one wants to give up their 5k's right now. I sure don't, and I've got 2 -and I'm not registered on poopli - I really only IVS shows back and forth with one close friend that's not a member here and sending an occasional show out to Bigjohns. They might or might not have a dip in price in a month or two - it's hard to say. At the height of the eBay panic a year or so ago, 5040's with LSA's were nearing the $700 mark. So just like the proceeding paragraph - "it ain't personal kid, it's just businuess."

Such being said,

Adios Amihoe...

PS: For what it's worth, you got a point in my book for not wanting to make a profit on something that you could have easily done so with.

Did you end up selling this elsewhere? Just wanna know if I need to keep my $$$'s hangin in there for this, or if I can consider buying another RTV or something ;)

Making a profit is OK if you want to. All I was trying to say is if you state a price, people can decide if they want it, if you don't, how can they decide.

If you're still in the market for a 15-2117, I can a few of them available at $30 each. Drop me a line if you're interested.
Hi Rob - I bought the Radio Shack remote to use with my ReplayTV and now that I have been reading, I want to get started on JP1. My first question for you is where can I get a JP1 cable? I saw a kit available off a link of yours but it says there are non available. I saw some completed ones on ebay for $20. Does that sound good?

Thanks!!

I don't know anything about that ebay seller, so i can't see what quality his cables are. You can get a JP1 cable for $14 shipped from Hovis Direct and $20 from Filebug. I also offer cables for sale when people are buying a remote from me.

Check out the links in my sig for more info on JP1.

Hey Rob-

A question for you, if you don't mind...

Do you happen to know what design the JP1 cables offered by Hovis Direct and Filebug are? In other words, are they similar to the "Basic JP1 cable" design as described in the file download area or are they similar to one of the more advanced designs?

Thanks for your time.

I'm not Rob, obviously, but did the investigation myself recently and found that they have the "basic" design AND an "Ultra" design. The "Basic" appears to be.. well.. basic. While the "Ultra" is one of the more advanced designs.

filebug will show you exactly what you get with both types of cables since they sell the kit too and outline the kit pretty well. I didn't check the Hovis site too much after finding what I needed at filebug.

Thanks! Another posted told me about Hovis and I have already ordered one from him. I just plan on setting up this remote and don't really forsee using it very often so the $14 one definitely fits my needs.
