Hi

Alright, i have had it with htpc, my brand new HTPC will be for sale.

I got 800X600 completely artifact free.

Since my pj is dual mode, 848X480, but setting that windows resolution, it is completely impossible to get a approved pic. quality with the mentioned test patterns when setting pj and windows to 848X480.

800X600 looks great in windows, perfect test pattern. But playing DVD's the pic quality is much more grainy, stuttery and overall very rough, in my eyes compared to my stand alone DVD player which i run through a S-video cable.

Enough by just looking at the Warner logo coming on screen.

Strange isn't it ?

Since my Loewe Xemix dvd player is not progressive, i will probably import the panny RP56, which is a good progressive player.

thanks all

I was having one of those nights last night also. Sometimes I just feel like tossing it out and getting a standalone DVD player with SDI and a nice scaler with SDI input.

I have been reading, buying, building and now tweaking for what seems like way too long and I still can't get anything other than base resolution to fit my Thoshiba (53HX71).

The desktop look crappy, very hard to read anything. I tried so many settings that I feel I am running around in circles

It was a nice dream, but for the trouble, I will sell the new kickass HTPC and get a good DVD player and a gaming console...

Gronbek,

I posted some screenshots and calibration results some time ago in the Plasma forum.

I'd strongly recommend trying it before you throw it out.in the

If you got it, did you get it calibrated for correct mapping of pixels to the projector?

Hi

Have the Sim2 HT200DM.

Dual mode pj, 800X600 and 848X480.

2 modes on pj, 16X9 and 4X3, also i can choose anamorphic.

I simply can't get a good picture when running 16X9 mode on pj and 848X480 in windows.

Picture is very fine 800X600 in windows, but is a mentioned, playing DVD material loks very rough, unclean and grainy compared to my stand alone DVD player.

Thank you

I am wondering if anyone that's frustrated with their HTPC if you have tried any adjustments to the (usual names for this) "CLOCK" and "PHASE" adjustments. These adjustments can make an amazing difference in picture quality.

Gronbek,

I too saw this with a Seleco DM model with HTPC. For some bizarre reason, it seems that the HT200DM scales incoming 800x600 signal. I would try using PowerStrip and experiment with different resolutions, my guess is that you cannot bypass the on-board scaler. (p.s. I only had less than an hour to play with this model, so I can't provide much more info)

I kinda' lost count of who is pissed at their HTPC's, so I don't know who to addres this reply to, but the topic I was talking about above is best described on Mark Rejhon's web site.

Hi

Yes, i can verify what you said about the scaling of 16:9 format 848X480, i seems what ever i do, i can't seems to find the correct setting in powerstrip.

I think the pj uses 800X600 chip Ã*n 16:9 as well.

I have by now tried almost all settings in powerstrip, the best one is

1280X960, but at that resolution, DVD's begin to stutter too much.

Yes, i am using the pattern from Marky's site.

Clock and phase does not help if the pj can't handle the powerstrip setting correctly.

Anyway, i am very pleased with the quality of the pj through standalone dvd player, so that is what i have decided for now.

Thank you all for helping.

Sounds like it's better to build the HTPC first, then wag it to the store and find a display that can work with it. Hard to do after the fact, admittedly.
