Hi all ... from lurking to participating, here I go !

Just ordered the 3060 (overnight delivery), so I should have it tomorrow.

I'm a happy DirecTV customer and had a question: I have the network package (East & West Coast Networks). If I ask it grab 'Friends' (let's say), will it grab it from both feeds ?

I've looked and haven't seen this asked before. Sorry if it has.

Thanks for the help !

No, it would just record the first one to run, if (for some reason) you wanted both, you would have to set up two different show-based channels.

Sweet. Thanks, Robman.

So, let's say I watch NBC's Thursday night line-up and want to use my Replay for the ABC lineup from the west coast (to time shift). No issues ?

By the way, will I be getting 3.0 ?

Thanks.

Yeah, they all have different channel names/numbers. I was concerned about the difference between 'theme' and 'show' based recording and what the differentiating factors were.

I was hoping I'd pull 3.0 out of the box. Oh, well. http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

... Todd.
fyi. i also ordered my 3060 overnight on a wednesday AM. didn't get it 'till monday AM.

details:
2000-10-10, tuesday afternoon:

decided to take the plunge. called the 800 # to see if there was a speed difference between phone orders and web orders. the very polite CSR said they are the same, but orders must be made before 12:00. otherwise they are processed with the next day's orders. also was told that a shipment of 3060s was arriving wednesday, so there should be plenty available.

i decided to web order, as it's easier for me to type in my info than dictate it.

2000-10-11, wednesday, 11:00AM EST/EDT:

went through the www.replaytv.com web site ordering process.

the first screen has a note that says "* Available within 24 hours." it still says this. (i have a screen capture). i made my selection (3060), and continued to the next screen.

the next screen has 3 shipping choices: "Ground(7-10 days)", "3 Day", "Shipped Next Day". i chose the $79.95 "Shipped Next Day" option. this screen also used to say orders must be received before 12:00 noon (EST?) in order to be processed that day. or similar words.

i finished with the screens and clicked the final submit at 11:09AM EST/EDT. i got confirmation (which i failed to print out), and everything looked fine.

a few minutes later, i got a confirmation e-mail sent with an e-mail header timestamp of 11:18AM (EST/EDT)

woo-hoo! replay tomorrow!

2000-10-12, thursday, ~11:00AM EST/EDT:

no replay tv. call cust service. the polite CSR (forgot to write down name) says she doesn't show it as having shipped yet. i detail essentially the above (ordered "next day". ordered before noon, etc.) she said it would probably ship today, but maybe tomorrow. but. there is no next-day available, only 2-day. i asked some more stuff but she said she didn't have any more info than what she already told me, "is there anything else i can help you with today?". i asked if there might me someone else that could help me better resolve the discrepancies.

kirk comes on the line, he is also very polite, we review the above info. he puts me on hold to check some stuff. he tells me about there not being a next day service and that it shouldn't say that on the web site. i say, "how soon can i have a unit?" he says he can only ship 2-day, but that it will definitely go out today (thursday). i complain some more, ask about what i'll be charged (shipping wise)... i'll get a $30 credit for the shipping difference... i tell kirk that i realize that they "are not in the shipping business like a buy.com", and before i even finish the sentence he says "Thank You!" so, apparently replay has been having some shipping problems.

it is left that it he would call me back first thing friday with a (UPS) tracking number.

also note: my amex was charged $879.94 on 2000-10-12

2000-10-13, friday 4ishPM EST/EDT:

busy work day, no time to check stuff. i call replay to talk to kirk. the very polite CSR asks if he could help me. i ask if there's a tracking number. there is, but the UPS system is down, so no way to get the info. i thank the CSR and hangup.

i try the # over the next hour but UPS is still down.

2000-10-13, friday 5:55PM EST/EDT:

kirk calls to give me the tracking number. i tell him i already called and got it, but UPS was down (i didn't think to quiz him on what i was about to find out.)

after hanging up with kirk, i finally get 1 piece of info from the UPS site... the package was shipped NEXT DAY AIR at 8:57AM EST/EDT, friday.

good/bad.

good: i'll have it monday.

good: they can ship next day air.

bad: they didn't ship it when they said they would. twice.

bad: kirk didn't ship next day air on thursday; i don't have replay over the weekend.

bad: will i now be charged full next day air price?

good: no, as we find out below.

2000-10-16, 10:00AM EST/EDT:

unit arrives. i'm at work. i content myself with looking at the manual.

when i get home, among other things i find out that the version is 2.1, not 3.0 http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/frown.gif

also note: my amex was credited $30.00 on 2000-10-16. i was really expecting this not to happen.

and, of course, i love ReplayTV. i already want another one!

Ugh. Thanks, Mike. I appreciate that. No one told me that it had to be ordered by noon during my order.

My e-mail from them is stamped 2:09pm central time, which, I hope, means that my order made it before noon California time !! http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

Perhaps one of the nice Replay folks in the forum can shed some light ?

I am *dying* to get my hands on it. Just the perfect cure for an otherwise sure to be boring October weekend (with a Green Bay Packers bye, no less !)

the implication is that you ordered by phone. do you remember what they said? did they say things like "it'll ship today", "you'll have it tomorrow" or things like "it'll go out next day air" but not when it would go out...

be sure to post here when you get your unit. or post friday afternoon that you didn't get your unit.

i hope your's arrives tomorrow! of course that would sort of piss me off http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

Regarding the recording of east and west coast feeds: you will now have the best of both worlds. Multiple airings and your own personal time-shifting device.

Show based Replay channels are tagged for a specific program on a specific channel at or around a specific time. So you can record X on 380 at 9:00 and then Y on 383 at 12:00 and watch either whenever it's convenient for you. If you use a theme channel, it might start picking up multiple airings of the same episode at different time from different feeds.

Just be careful you don't get too backed up waiting to watch shows from weeks ago--with a 3060 you shouldn't run out of space to easily. I use medium quality for almost all my recordings from DirecTV. I hooked up the DirecTV receiver to the Replay via S-video, and I'm pleased with the quality.

Welcome & enjoy!

Ryan: Thanks for the tips, that's exactly what I was wondering, and, exactly why I bought the 3060. I can't wait.

just_mike (and everyone else): Yes, you were right. I, apparantly was 'bit' by the 'cutoff time' bug as well. http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/mad.gif However, I spoke to an 'escalation' representative who said this wasn't the first time he had seen this happen ... go figure. So, after about an hour on the phone, and a call back from him (!) I *might* still get it today (Friday) or a special Saturday delivery.

I'll post the whole story after I get my 3060 ... don't want to 'jinx' it !

Ok, let me just say this. I’m not happy with ReplayTV’s shipping policy. They do not ship the units themselves, they use a fulfillment center. I had a lot of trouble with the fulfillment center trying to get my unit shipped. Replay was clueless as to what was happening and I finally get fed up and cancelled my order. The whole thing took a week and a half. That day, I ordered it via Amazon.com and with standard (FREE) shipping, the unit arrive three days later.

If you need on fast and don’t mind not paying $19.99 for shipping, order via Amazon.com, it is faster and you get your tacking number via email when it is shipped so you can watch it on its way to your house.

Sheesh, this may need a new topic, soon !!

I agree. It *seems* that the fulfillment center is chock-full of problems, right down to not being able to 'see' your order until a 24-hour period has elapsed.

I will continue to inform the group as my saga continues ...

Thanks for the input, Serra !

Wednesday, Oct. 18 9:00 AM I call RePlayTV Customer service to ask if Showstopper owners will get the 3.0 upgrade along with RePlay branded owners. She says no. I ask if she knows when Panasonic is going to ship the PV-HS3000 60 hour Showstopper ( equivalent to the RePlayTV 3060 model) She says that Panasonic will not ship a 60 hour model for at least 3 to 6 months because ReplayTV wants first crack at consumers desiring the 60 hour unit. OK.. This decides the issue for me. I will cancel my order for the vaporware Panasonic 60 hour unit that Good Guys supposedly has on order for me. I will return my 30 hour Showstopper to Good Guys this Saturday as that is the end of my 30 day Money-Back Guarantee period. I decide to order the 3060 directly from this RePlay phone representative. I ask for next day delivery which she says is $79.95. I say that is fine as I need it before Saturday when I have to return my 30 hour Showstopper on Saturday. We finish up the transaction and I get my confirmation number.

Thursday Oct. 19 11:00 AM Hmmmm. I should have seen my Fedex delivery guy at work by now which is where I shipped my 3060. Oh Well ..... it'll be here by 2:30 PM. Later, 4PM I call Replay and talk to another representative. He informs me that he showed the order processed Wednesday 18 Oct at 11:45 AM I say I ordered it at 9AM. He says that the order only shipped today Thursday, the 19th. I ask what the tracking number for the shipment is. He says he can't provide a tracking number as 24 hours hasn't elapsed. I say OK that'll be fine, I'll have it by 10:30 Friday so won't need to ask what the tracking number was as 2 days has elapsed.

Friday, Oct. 20 Busy as heck getting new machinery off the truck and installed into the warehouse. 4 PM, Oh no, whatever happened to Fedex and my RePlay. Call

Customer Service and ask why I didn't get my 3060. They look at my order and see it but say they don't see the right or enough information about my order. I ask what my tracking number is, the representative goes away for a while, I sit on hold patiently waiting. The phone goes dead. I'm pissed. I call back and say that the previous representative hung up on me. I start all over again providing information. The rep says they need to ask someone about my order and why I didn't receive the unit. I wait listening to dead air. Click. The line is hung up on me. I'm really pissed. I call back again and say that I have been hung up by 2 reps so far and am very unhappy. The rep says she will look into it and give me a call back before she leaves from work. I ask can she simply give me the telehone number for the fulfillment center as I remember that AA members say that it is possible to get tracking numbers from them. 5 PM no call from RePlay.. I get home at 6 PM and check my e-mail. Nothing from RePlay.

So, I have to return my Showstopper tomorrow, Saturday and I don't have my 3060 ordered at 9 AM Wednesday for Overnight Delivery. I still don't know what my tracking number is or if my order even really shipped. I have no Replay service for the weekend or even Monday most likely.

I saw previously this week that the 3060 is available from Amazon.com and the shipping is FREE!! I figure I could save some money, taxes and shipping, if I order from Amazon.com. I figure why take the chances on no inventory or guaranteed delivery when RePlay says they have units ready to ship and will guarantee overnight delivery right now for a price. I decide to take no chances on not receiving my 3060 before the weekend when I have to return my Showstopper. The end result... I will have no RePlay for at least 4-5 days and I have been charged for overnight delivery. The moral of the story.... don't trust RePlay to fulfill your order in the timely manner they publish and charge moneys for.

for some great (so-far) news on how to get a RTV 3060 (not panasonic) in 1 day, be sure to see the 3060 at Ecost.com thread.
