I went to MyDirecTV.com and deleted the Showtime package. My current subscription lineup now reads:

Total Choice & locals=$39.99

HDTV=$0.00 (HDnet & HBO-HD)

SHO-HD=$0.00

Showtime package disappeared & SHO-HD is still on.....hopefully it will stay that way! :)

I did the same thing. From the Directv website, my account information is posted below:

Monthly Services:

TOTAL CHOICE ($31.99/month)

HDTV ($0.00/month)

Monthly Charge for Services Shown Above:

$31.99

Other Charges and Sports Subscriptions:

SHOWTIME HD ($0.00/MONTHLY)

Did you already have the Showtime package before April 30th -or- did you add the Showtime Package plus Showtime-HD (on April 30th) then immediately cancel the regular Showtime package via the directv.com ? I assume once you sign up for the regular Showtime package you will be charged for one month's service even if you cancel it the next day.

They should pro-rate the service for the time you used it.
I ordered SHO package about 2 weeks ago. We'll see what happens. I think the key is having Total Choice. I would think if it was truely tied to the SHO package it would have gone byebye with the rest of regular SHO. Regarding the monthly charge....to quote Tommy Lee Jones in "The Fugitive":

I signed up for Showtime on April 22th using the website.

I activated Showtime HD on the phone on April 30th.

I cancelled Showtime on May 1st on the website.

Great minds think...and act....alike!
Hmmmm. This sounds like its worth a try. Thanks for the tip.
And I talked a CSR into adding the Showtime HD line today without ever having had Total Choice or the Showtime package. I couldnt get them to do it that way yesterday, but I was able to today.

So now, as always, the only thing I've ever subbed to is the NFL package, but am getting HDNet, HBO HD and now SHO HD too.
Good to know. Although I do not have means to even receive 543, I will call to get it for $0.00 while we still can :)
Hmmmm, guess I'll have to order the $8 Sat C LNB now ;).

AARRRGGHHHH!!!!

Busted!

15 minutes ago I checked and SHO-HD was gone, replaced with the infamous 721 message. I checked Mydirectv.com and sure enough, the SHO-HD listing was gone! Crap!

Good news is, SHO-HD came back on when I turned SHO package back on.

Oh well, it was worth a try!

I'm confused. I just went to MyDirecTV and added the showtime package, with the intention of maybe cancelling it and retaining SHO-HD. Immediately after I submitted the request the SHO channels, including 543, were available via my DTC100 (installed the Sat-C kit a couple of weeks ago). However, my online statement doesn't have a separate line item for SHO-HD. It reads as follows:

Package: HDTV, HBO/SHOWTIME/CINEMAX, TOTAL CHOICE

Do I need to call a CSR and make sure they add SHO-HD as a separate item?

Well, I do not subscribe to Showtime, never did and never will; and I was able to get the CSR (err..., Entertainment Consultant) to add Sho-HD in less than 30 seconds! That must be a record! Once she found it as a separate line item, she started laughing that I told her how to do it and she didn't even know about it.
Well I just answered my own question. Adding the Showtime package from MyDirecTV.com does automatically activate Ch. 543 (apparently the DTC100 doesn't require a reboot). However, to add SHO-HD as a separate line item on your service (should you decide to terminate the Showtime package while retaining SHO-HD) you need to speak with a CSR to have them manually add the item to your service, since it's not available on the menus. In my case I got a very knowlegeable guy named Les who said he "was the first guy to start activating SHO-HD last night while other CSR's had no clue what was going on." Immediately after hanging up I logged on to MyDirecTV and there it was:

Package: HDTV, HBO/SHOWTIME/CINEMAX, TOTAL CHOICE, SHOWTIME HD

So the moral is: if you never had Showtime before and want their package as well as SHO-HD, it's enough to just add them via MyDirecTV.com. However, if you want just SHO-HD (for free), you gotta talk to a CSR AFTER you've already added the Showtime package. Just make sure to cancel any premium packages via MyDirecTV, not a CSR. Otherwise they may decide to cancel your HD channels as well, as others have experienced.

Disclaimer: No guarantee that DTV won't wise up to this practice.

Whoever was able to add just Shotime HD line, without TC and Showtime package, should consider yourself very lucky, because I have tried every trick I can came up with, on three different CSRs, one of which was retention person, and no go.

And apparently if you call them too much they will put you on a black list so next CSR will know where your coming from instantly without you even open your mouth :)

Well I have better things to do. In fact with the recent development on cable carrying HDTV on 01/2003, if HDNet/HBOHD/SHOHD and others become available, I might just switch.

I am seriously going against Dish/Direc merger now.
I called to get Showtime-HD activated yesterday, May 1st, and talked to the CSR and then to their supervisor. It appears they have eliminated the CSR's seperate entry option for Sho-HD and now when they activate the Sho Premium package Sho-HD is included. I went ahead and had them activate the Showtime Premium package and Sho-HD also immediately came up. Checking this morning on directv.com for my account info there is no seperate listing for Sho-HD. It appears they made some changes during the day on May 1st that attempt to prevent new Showtime subscribers from getting Sho-HD without the full Sho Premium package.

I am on Time Warner Cable in NYC. I have never had Showtime, nor do I now. Back in October, when I got my 2000HD box & had the HD turned on, I had SHO-HD for free & have had it ever since.:D
So the trick doesn't work anymore huh?

Darn!
