Congrats Chris. I have had my 42VHA for 5 days now and I couldn't be happier. I'm still playing with the settings and such, oh so much fun.

Are you going to be using a HD or SD source? I'm using SD DirectTV (tivo), along with progressive scan DVD, and I'm interested in hearing other people's experiences/settings.

Congrats guys! Just out of curiosity, did you guys all compare the Fujitsu with the ED Panny prior to purchase? I ask because a buddy is getting close to purchasing an ED 42" panel and I'm just wondering how you found the 2 compare. I've told him to seriously consider a panel with DVI just to be sure, which of course eliminates the current Pannys from the picture.

Hi Chris,

Congrats!

Glad to know that prices at http://www.***************.com/htsthreads/images/graemlins/Censored_Emoticon[1].gif[/img ] are so good! It sure is good to have a member's confirmation that [img] http://www.***************.com/htsthreads/images/graemlins/Censored_Emoticon[1].gif[/img ] is a good place to purchase from. Did you compare [img] http://www.***************.com/htsthreads/images/graemlins/Censored_Emoticon[1].gif[/img ] to [img] http://www.***************.com/htsthreads/images/graemlins/Censored_Emoticon[1].gif[/img ], and did [img] http://www.***************.com/htsthreads/images/graemlins/Censored_Emoticon[1].gif[/img ] give you a competitive quote also?

If I wasn't afraid of being [img] http://www.***************.com/htsthreads/images/graemlins/Censored_Emoticon[1].gif[/img ] I would have even recommended another source! :D

Ken,

I compared the Fujitsu with the Panny and found them to be pretty equal in picture quality as far as colors, black levels, and "punch". The Fujitsu does a better job in scaling SD and eliminating motion artifacts in my opinion. And it has DVI/HDCP. So instead of waiting for the new Pannys with unknown picture quality or pricing, I went with the Fujitsu.

Guys, I am confused by this HDCP issue for ED displays. Why does it matter for monitors that can display only 480p anyway? My understanding is that if my monitor is not HDCP compliant than truly HD material from, say D*, might (but not necessarily will) be downrez to 480p, which is a native rez of ED monitor anyway.

DVI is another issue. It is a digital interconnect but I have not yet seen convincing arguments that PQ via DVI is significantly superior to component (which is analog) on ED monitors.

Comments?

There is a real possibility that cable and satellite providers will choose to close down the "analogue hole" not just "downrez" the HDsignal. But even if "they" simply downrez the HD signal sent to your machine, the issue is whether EDTV flatscreens such as Panasonic. which do a brilliant job of internally downrezzing HD signals to ED will be able to do as good a job with HD signals downrezzed at the other end. Conceivably you might be sent a 480i signal which your plasma would only be able to process as well as it does a DVD coming from a non-progressive scan DVD player. None of this may happen any time soon, but the fear of it is what is leading Panasonic and all the others to put DVI with HDCP connections on all their new machines.

Malachy, thanks for good explanation.

So, in the worst case scenario people with no HDCP will be limited to watching their DVDs (in their full glory), SDTV (in its full glory), and HDTV (in its full glory) for programs that are very unlikely to be ever HDCP protected (e.g., news). By no means these monitors will become obsolete - as I remember reading sometimes around here. Even though I have HDNet, HBO-HD, SHO-HD, and ~ 9 digital OTA channels I often watch SD programs because of their content. How long can you admire the PQ of an HD program that you don't find interesting?

So how does HD look on this Fujitsu? They didn't show this model on HDNet like the rest of the plasma's on display. The Fuji had a nice looking Bose demo that looked quite nice.

I ordered the Sony DIRECTV SAT-HD200 HDTV Satellite Tuner this morning to replace my Hughes E86 HD Receiver. The Sony with it's DVI should be a good start for a excellent PQ I hope :)
