OK, I'm buying this puppy sight unseen, and unheard. I'm putting together a 90" diagonal parkland plastic screen that should be ready by this weekend.

I will be tossing and turning for the next 3-4 days in anticipation of my new baby! :D

I will be using the xp-30 with the 300. Be ready for lots of questions.

PS I went with Visual Apex.

you shouldn't be disappointed I also have an xp30 L300, it still looks good to me (I'm moderately picky) projecting on a sheet until I get my screen up, even before I've played with any settings except for low power mode. Have fun.

Wow, the response is overwhelming as expected :p

Thanks for your responses guys.

I now need to decide on the right length for the component video cables. My screen will be 90" diag and according to the folks at VA, the projector will need to be about 9.3'-11.1' from the screen.

I will probably table mount it for the first couple of weeks until I can have it properly ceiling mounted.

I bought one sight unseen based on posts from this forum, local vendor advice and availability since I have company coming this month and couldn't wait any longer for the HS10.

I couldn't be happier going with the Panasonic. It does seem like there is some motion artifact in fast moving scenes with my non progressive scan dvd player (older Sony), but I am hoping that gets cleared up with a Prog. scan player.

Sometimes making a daring plunge is the only way to get off the fence about buying something like a PJ :)

Enjoy the new PJ!

Those would probably suffice but if you want peace of mind that you're getting the best possible signal from your source to your pj without paying an exorbitant price for some exotic brand name then I'd suggest buying your cables here: http://www.bluejeanscable.com/store/component/index.htm

Check out the Belden 7710a or the Canare V3-5CFB. I've got a 35' run of the V3-5CFB between my RP-82 and L300u. Awesome cable. A 25' run will set you back $96 + shipping but I think it's worth it.

Welcome to the L300U club! Make sure to do a search for the threads on defocussing and the flicker tweak if you haven't seen them already.

BJM, thanks for the recommendation. Yeah, 25 feet will be cutting it kinda tight but I got it for $28 shipped...not too shabby of a deal. According to my measurements, DVD player to projector should be roughly 20 feet...so I will have an extra 5 feet to play with.

I did check BlueJean but there prices were too high.

Congrats! You are going to love this pj. I actually bought the AE-300 and imported it from Japan within weeks of release. (How the hell was I supposed to know that they'd release the thing in the US?)

As for cables, I got a 35 ft component cable from Bettercables and I'm very pleased with them.

Finally, and most importantly, let your projector run for about 30 minutes or so and then DO THE FLICKER TWEAK. You can search for that term on this forum and you'll find detailed instructions. This makes a world of difference in PQ.

Enjoy the new toy!

I'm also a new panny owner(2 weeks-30 hrs). Couldn't be happier with mine. I have a sony progressive scan dvd and dish network hi-def with ota locals. Am using da-lite cinema vision screen with low lamp setting and picture is awesome. Had a 65" mitsubishi wide screen, but am enjoying this much better. My cables are 30'component from yamaha receiver, switching between dvd and satellite.

Sorry for the late reply, I thought the forum would email when people replied to posts.

Anyway yes I have performed both of those fixes and during most scenes everything is fine. it is only during really fast moving scenes, for example space craft wizzing by that cause the motion artifact. Most likely due to my old DVD player that is not progressive scan. It thats not the problem then I may need more help.

I just picked up a Samsung TS160 yesterday and I am displaying it via component to the L300U. Leno last night looked great in HD :)

Has anyone gotten the L300u working over DVI with a set top box that does HDCP?

Thanks

You paid $2,000 for a projector and probably $200+ for the XP30. I assume you have an audio setup probably $500 to $1,000 and you think spending $75 on 25ft of GOOD cable is too high?

I personally think you'll compromise video quality with those $20 component video cables.

Jcamber, my audio system is somewhere between $3k-$4k but I don't make purchases based on the % value of my system. If I see a good bargain, I'm not gonna pass it up.

Here is the specs for the cable i just got, please tell me how the $75 ones differ and how that difference translates into improvde video performance:

"Python Component-Video RCA Interconnects Provides High-Definition video signal transfer between DVD players and high end TVs or monitors for optimum picture resolution and color. Precision 75-Ohm Impedance for Maximum Signal Transfer. - Extended 1GHz Bandwidth EMI-RFI Protected Double High-Density Shield. 100% 0.12mm Aluminum-Polyester Foil Shield. Ultra Flexible Satin-Ivory Rubberized PVC Jacket. Low-Attenuation Foamed Cellular Dielectric. 24K Gold Plated Heavy Duty RCA Connectors. Color Coded - Fully Molded Construction. "

That's easy. There's TONS of people here that have used bluejeans cables with nothing less than excellent results (no, I don't work for them!). In "blind" purchases the experience that other users have had is worth gold to me.

Have you had someone telling you the cables you bought are similar in performance to Bluejeans or Bettercables on a side-by-side comparo?

How can you do a side-by-side comparo with ANY cable in any any component in any system?

Sound and Vision did a blind test a couple of years back. They connected the same components with 2 different grades of cables. One setup was with random pieces of spare speaker wire, throw-away cables, etc... While the other was with moderately higher priced cables. The systems were hidden behind a curtain. Verdict: the judges didn't shoot any better than flipping a coin as to which system they were hearing.

I believe there is some merit to getting good quality cables that are shielded from interference. After that, I think you're getting the very slightest incremental difference at a premium at best and throwing money away at worst.

Just my opinion. I could be wrong.

I still would like to know what the difference is between the python cable and the one from bluejeans. It's a simple question requiring a simple answer...
