Even though it is not HD, does anyone know how this 4000 model works?

Will it only record up to 480i and TRANSLATE it to 480 P? Will it record HD AT 480i?

Will it record FOX broadcasts which are 480P in a manner that my widescreen tv can accept and which will look as good as the original broadcast?

I don't seem to be able to get much out of the web site and not too much from the replay forum here........ anyone?

I don't know exactly how it works, but I suspect not. In order for it to get all of the information from Fox's digital "native" 480p ATSC broadcasts, it would have to have an ATSC tuner, or an ability to record the analog HD output of an HD STB (thus far found only in expensive W-VHS decks and professional equipment)--I don't think it has either.

Most HDTVs can take 480i NTSC broadcasts and "upconvert" them to some digital format, using line-doubling and spatial and temporal antialiasing techniques. But this can never look as good as actual content authored and displayed as DTV.
