I need a "back to basics" HT building article.

Does anyone know of a good "newbie" reference guide that covers all the bases of a dedicated HT construction? Instead of creating a bunch of annoying threads asking basic questions, and/or spending hours upon hours sifting through the archive of threads here (that are usually very in depth about very specific topics), I'd like something more like an FAQ that will give me the basics on room geometry, speaker placement, pros and cons of certain types of wall/floor/ceiling accoustical treatment, lighting, seating, wiring...everything form A to Z.

Thanks.

It seems to me there once was such a guide, but I couldn't direct you as to where it is. Do you have "DYI Network" on SATELLITE? The Do It Yourself network runs a series called "Home Theater". They are going to be doing a string of epesodes, walking you through the process starting Jan. 16th ... I think... . Sounds like must see tv to me.

No, I don't. Hopefully they will have it on their website after they air it.

Scot,

I'm not sure if any article series/book has all of the information. For room acoustics, I'd suggest you read up on Alton Everest's writings. It will cover room geometry, speaker placement, acoustic treatment fundamentals in a clear and concise manner.

Home Theater Builder magazine had a lot of articles detailing these types of things. It is the closest I have seen to what you seek.

I don't think I've ever seen a really good guide with the amount of options and detail most look for. Most of them have been dumbed down enough to suit the masses and don't contain any really useful information.
what is it you want to know.

On the boards there are two opinions as to what a home theater is.

One is a room that looks like a movie theater.

The other is an acoustically correct speaker/listener/watcher arrangement somewhere in your house.

They are not the same thing.
