I currently have a Sony DA-3100ES and I really love it, but it does not have HDMI so I am missing HD-Audio. Please suggest a replacement receiver that will not have a performance hit to my current receiver.

I would like to spend under $1000 and really have no idea what to get. Please offer some suggestions.

1) Compare manufacturers' specs carefully. (Many are now rating power at 1khz rather than 20-20khz.)

2) Read the 2 dozen other "I need a new receiver" threads on this forum.

You can have a Look at the TX-NR807 a very nice receiver that has all the New HD Audio. Does your old sony have multichannel inputs? Also what is your Blu-ray player.

My old receiver can actually do 9.1 surround. I am using PS3 Slim for BRD

Room size, speakers using, preferable Eq type would also help. There are many AVR's in this price range from several different companies. All use different EQ programs and are in different power ranges.

I know there are a multitude of ... Help me pick a new receiver threads, but I don't know enough to know how not to get a receiver that is not as good as the one I have. I am using all Klipsch RSX-4 for F L/R and R L/R and a RCX-4 center channel with a Klipsch 12" sub. Room size is about 25' x 20'

My Sony is really clean and was a great receiver, it just doesn't have HDMI.

If you have any interest in internet radio take a look at the Onkyo NR807/RC180 . These are the only networking capable AVRs under $1000. Firmware - something of a sore subject with many AVR users - can be updated via the internet with the built in Ethernet port. It is quick and easy and painless.

I can run Pandora or Slacker from my PS3 or VUDU player so that is not a big concern. I do have an XM account but that isn't too big of a deal. It would be nice if it had a AUX input jack so I could play music from my BB Storm. 9.1 is not needed or likely to ever be used.

So far the Denon 1909 or 1910 seem to be the only real suggestions. Is that the best for around $500?

The 1910 or an Onkyo SR707. They are very comparable - both have Audyssey MultEQ.

I did some reading and I think the question I should have asked was..... Since my current AVR has multi-channel analog inputs, do I really need HDMI? And if not, how would I set it up for use with my PS3 Slim to get the benefits I am missing by not having TrueHD and HD-DTS?

Here is my current AVR specs:

A PS3 doesn't have multi-channel analog outputs.

A lot of people don't think the new HD audio formats sound significantly better than the regular compressed formats though, so I'm not really sure you should be worried about upgrading unless there's some other reason you're unhappy with your current receiver.
