Im sure this question has been asked here many times but I dont think it has with the AverTV HD DVR in the mix. I need some help comparing these cards and possibly a little insight from people that may own them. I am beating myself up surfing the depths of the web to get a comparison between the Aver and a Hauppauge 1212. You guys have a different thread going for the Aver but I cant seem to get any answers from it. My computer specs shouldn't be an issue as I have a big enough processor and a raid0 setup on the way. What card should I choose mind you that I will be mainly capturing game play footage from an xbox360.

AverTV HD DVR

Hauppauge 1212

Black Magic Intensity Pro

I would really like to save some cash and go with the AverTV but I hear mixed reviews and I have yet to see a quality test done for Halo 3 which is what i will be capping most.

You could also consider the Hauppauge HD-PVR.

I works quite well and can record up to 1080i via component with AC3 audio via optical.

It is a bit pricier but it can also be use to archive your cable HD-PVR recording.

Sorry to be so vague with my names, the Hauppauge 1212 is the HD PVR.. And I am leaning towards purchasing it. The only problem I have so far is that it splits out to my tv via component which will only play in 1080i on my set. This isn't too much of a problem but HDMI would be nice. Do you believe it produces the best quality out of the lot?

It suits my need since by going the component route it is immune from HDCP. The Black Magic can only record unprotected signal (without HDCP).

Is HDCP a problem I need to be concerned with on xbox 360? And both the black magic and Aver come with a dongle cord to connect component if needed. I just got done watching some quality tests on youtube and the Hauppauge is looking pretty good compared to the others. Thanks for your help again Karmyna it's much appreciated.

The HD PVR doesn't output video at all. The Component "outs" on the HD PVR are only for passthrough so you can connect it between your STB and TV.

You play recordings via your normal video card.

This isn't what I meant at all, when I said split I meant the signal that is passed through (looped to) the PVR to my tv which is provided by component video cord. Component video cord can only play in 1080i on my Panny G10. I fully understand the workings of all of these cards/capture boxes I only request some opinions on quality. It seems like the PVR is the capture device of choice so far though. I really wanted to try that AverTV out...

Do you like your PVR stranger?
