I need replacement help.My 4805 died.

I really enjoyed the 4805 & am looking for it's replacement.I have a dedicated, light controlled home theater area.I guess that means I can get away with a less bright projector(and hopefully a better image for the $) . 720P is all I need for now & want to spend under 1K.I think DLP is favored as we didn't seem to have RBE issues with the 4805.I would also have to be able to project a 100" image from 13' or more.I cannot move closer than 13' ceiling mounted.I hope this is enough info to get some good responses.

If your looking for a great deal on a projector go with the HC1600.. With the current deal of $100 rebate + a free bulb you just can't beat that for a brand new projector. It sounds like you don't have problems with rainbows and that was the main issue many people had about the Hc1600..
Thanks.I am looking in to that projector. Will it blow the doors off the 4805?

going from an X1 to the HD1000U was my route and yes.. it blew the doors off it.
Everyone will recommend what they have bought. We like our Panasonic 720p PJ very much.

Some probably think I've gone a bit mad about this but I recommend you do your homework/research and try to find a projector within your budget that is 3D Ready.

Manufacturers of both tvs and projectors already have 3D Ready models on store shelves and industry represenatives say that many more models at lower prices will be available in 2009.

Why 3D Ready? Just do some google research. Commercial Theaters everywhere are paying to upgrade to 3D digital projection systems and movie and program makers are saying they plan to create a TON of 3D material and during 2009 and going into 2010 it will be more and more evident that FINALLY visual entertainment is making the next major evolutionary step from flat 2D to mulit-dimensional or 3D formats.

Just think about it and check it out - it's an interesting topic and there is a lot of information available online.

goodluck

Before you jump on the HC 1600 make sure you are aware that it has a 2X color wheel vs. 4X for the 4805 and so it is more likely to create RBE issues than 4805.

You should also check out the screen offset which I think is higher than the 4805 in case you have low ceiling in your HT room and it would be a very tight fit if you can't move the screen.

I also have a 4805 and am projecting a 92" image from about 12 feet away so we are kind of in a similar situation. I was thinking about upgrading to the mits but when I read about the color wheel and the high offset ratio, I had to reconsider.
Also remember that most new DLP projectors in your price range have a 30% offset (the distance from the bottom of the lens to the top of the screen is 30% of screen height). As i recall the offset on the 4805 is only 15% so the image will be lower with a new DLP. For that reason, you may want to look into an LCD as well like the Panasonic ax200
OOPS.I pulled the trigger on this projector this morning before seeing these last 3 posts. My ceiling is fairly low so I hope my image doesn't end up on the floor. No problem with RBE on the 4805 but I didn't realize that it was a 4X wheel.Am I in for a NASTY surprise?I was hoping for a pleasant surprise.
Keep your fingers crossed, and let us know your impressions of it once you have it set up.

I would like to know as a fellow 4805 owner how it compares.

Considering the offset, you will undoubtedly have to do some keystoning. I suggest setting it on a shelf or table for a few days just compare the color wheel and general picture quality since keystoning will skew that somewhat.

Let us know!
My fingers are crossed. It should arrive next Thursday. When I get it ceiling mounted I will let you know what it's like.
Not yet ceiling mounted yet but it has an awesome picture.A definate upgrade from the 4805 but with more noticable rbe.
Ceiling mounted & it fit perfectly where the 4805 was.I have also received both the $100 rebate & the free bulb. What a deal.$649 plus a free bulb.I think that works out to about $300 - $350 for the projector. How could I go wrong, whats a few rainbows anyway. They only bother you if you look for them after hearing all the comlpaints on this site.
Hey bbruins,

Hows the Mits hc1600 handle some ambient light? I'm getting ready to upgrade from my recently deceased X1, and am almost ready to pull the trigger on this pj since the X9 is no longer on sale. It's either this or go with an X10, but I need a little extra lumens for ambient light in my family room.

Also, where did you go for the rebate (you can pm me if it's not allowed in the forums).

Thanks much!
Good to hear you enjoy it!

I went from a SP4805 that I was very happy with to an Optoma HD65 Used for $400 and I'm thrilled. Brightness and Clarity clearly blow the doors off of my old baby

It does handle more ambiant light than the 4805 did but is still better to watch in the dark or almost dark. The rebate was being offered by Mitzubishi on the Amazon site.I just had to print the form from them & send it in with the proof of purchase.I don't believe it is still being offered though.
