I finally got my receiver (Pioneer VX-1021) and I'm using my P163s as mains, so the next piece of audio gear will be a subwoofer. Because of the Newegg deals at the moment, I'm (going to screw up my personal budget... as well as...) debating between the Energy 10.3 or the Klipsch Reference RW-12d. I'm trying to keep the budget to

As a very distant 3rd choice I could just get the PC-351 center channel and hold off on my subwoofer for a rather long while, but I think I would get more quality audio by adding the sub.

Klipsch rw12d all day at 299. Can't be beat. I have one I use with my gaming pc. A real steal at 300. Pros far outweight the cons

I would guess the Klipsch would have more output, that is what I would choose if I had to decide.

I figured for output the RW-12D would have more output - I'm just wondering which one is more accurate. Currently it's for my PC, and later for a home theater system whenever I get myself into a house instead of an apartment. I'm just trying to figure out which is the better investment. (If i had to I'd stretch 2x 10.3s but my wife said she would choke me).

Of the two, I'd go with the RW-12D. It's been mentioned on here several times that when it goes on sale for this price, there really isn't anything else that beats it in the price range. I have two sitting in my room and they're amazing subs for 300-350.

The klipsch gripes a bit at it's limits, but keep it out of the redline and it does a very nice job for the saleprice of $300 for movies or music.

Just continue to forget about the HSU STF-1 and STF-2. For $299 neither sub from HSU can compete with the KLIPSCH RW-12D.

They could probably compete... depends on what you want though.


I'm guessing for output - but how accurate is the bass it provides? I've got until tomorrow morning to make up my mind. I'm almost leaning towards the 10.3 as it'll be plenty for me for now, and it's more budget friendly but it's hard to turn away from getting better for just the $100 bucks more.

I'm actually very interested in the Jamo as it's a sealed design. Are there any reviews out there for this sub comparing it to the Hsu? I'm still going thru the Jamo thread, but I wasn't sure if anyone had info off the top of their head.

When building my bed room 5.1 system my subwoofer budget was $300 I went with the Bic because of the warranty. You can't go wrong with any of the listed subwoofers there all quailty performers for their price points.

I ordered the Jamo 650 as I want a sealed sub - my current listening is all within 8 feet of my screen, usually within 3 feet. I can't play loud, so having accurate bass is important, so we'll see how the thing goes

in a few years I'll look into a "real" subwoofer (I want a Rhythmik )

Where'd you find a deal on a Jamo 650?, I have another friend interested in one of those and I'm curious about them. They seem like a generally good deal at the ebay price of around $350 and look to be fairly comparable to the Klipsch RW-12D at around the same pricepoint. If you paid much more, or anywhere near retail - - - I think you made a mistake. In any rate - make sure and report back your impressions.

Depending on its extension to around or below 20hz - this might be the new darling budget sale priced subwoofer. 650 watt bash plate amp, sealed, and a sufficiently heavy (perhaps braced box) -- at $300? What's not to like -- at least on paper.


Though the jury is still out until you and some other folk with some experience get their hands on it (and their measuring gear)

FWIW I did really enjoy my Jamo D7 Subs I had for a short time. They weren't world beaters in an SPL contest, but were very nice subs overall and sounded quite good for movies. They were 15" subs with servo controlled drivers and 400 watts. THX Ultra 2 rating... I paid $500 a piece for them on a vanns closeout (which I assume this is also a closeout)

It's really hard to believe, given the fact that it's essentially a 16" cube, but Jamo lists it at almost 108 pounds.

Jamo quotes it as 24-150, but doesn't say how many dB down that is. I don't have any experience with Jamo myself, so I don't know if they quote accurate numbers or if they're like DefTech.

I was wondering if these were a closeout too. Jamo doesn't say they're discontinued, but Amazon has them as "currently unavailable" and BH Photo says "no longer available" so my guess is they might be end of life. But who knows, it could be like the Energy S10.3 and be discontinued but perpetually available.


BTW... I found a guy on ebay selling them for $269! Wish I had seen that first - I could have saved myself 10% off what I paid.

I figure it's about 50ish lbs myself. As for the e-bay, does that include shipping? if so than dang - wish I would have seen that. I'm quite sure I'll be happy with it. It's a sealed sub, and for it's intended purpose it's better than the one I don't have now. I'm hoping it'll help open up my P163s a bit when I get to set a crossover . Next I want to get my PC351 center channel....
