My wife is thinking of getting me this popcorn machine from JC Penny. I need everyone's expert opinion. She's going to oder it maybe this week or next week. I want to make sure it has the AVS seal of approval.

That solves our problem! My wife bought me the smaller hot air popper but we didn't like that you had to wait 15 minutes between batches for it to cool back down. It looks like this new one will pop more at a time! I really liked the hot air. Healthier, and hardly no cleanup.

Now...where to buy...

sknyfs,

Hard to evaluate without knowing the capacity (usually stated in quarts), whether or not it has a warming tray, heating lamp, "old maid" tray, type of kettle, etc., etc. Does seem like a very good price though. Do they have one on display at JC Penny so you can check it out?

I went and checked out the Helman Group popper when I was first looking. They use to sell it at Kitchen's etc. Not sure if they still do.

While the price was good the popper seemed cheaply made to me and the base was disproportioned to the popper. Seemed lite it would be real easy to tip over. Now this isn't to say it didn't make good popcorn. It might do a bang up job in that department. I don't know. I just felt it wasn't worth the money.

In the end I purchase a tp6 and am very happy. If you're going to spend a decent chunk of change on this popcorn popper, I would really try to see it in person first.

Hey, pcdoctor! Just noticed this.

Yup, my popper is going strong, works great and NO stirrer problems at all any more. I make 2-3 batches a week of great popcorn without a hitch.

Costco still carries this occasionally online which is certainly the preferred place to go...

As far as the build quality, mine is all steel, very heavy, and very sturdy. Not sure how anyone could see this in person and not think it was solidly built. The cart is heavy metal and is flush with the popper, not sure where the above member saw his but possibly it was not the same cart as the one supplied. It also locks onto the popper from underneath and is very hard to knock over.

Hi htomei,

Yup, it absolutely has a warming tray, not a heating lamp. Also has an old maid tray. This thing has been the second best purchase I ever made for my theater.... ;)
