I've had MPC for a while now, but I'd never tried its DVD decoder, being perfectly pleased with ZoomPlayer+WinDVD. However, I just gave it a try and holy crap, this thing rules!

While I'm not as experienced/advanced as most people here, I do consider myself a freak when it comes to video, can spot MPEG artifacts a mile away, and have sampled several software-based DVD players. I don't know what it is about MPC's decoder, but wow... The image just seems much more solid and MUCH less noisy than I'm used to. It looks amazing, to be honest. I've seen one scene in which I would say the image looks slightly soft (Gandalf's arrival in Hobbiton in FOTR), but other than that, the picture seems as detailed as ever.

Now, these observations are based solely on what I see on my CRT monitor. I haven't tried MPC through a projector, so I don't know how well the image holds up at very large sizes. But so far, so GOOD!
